The Mets defeated the Rockies by the score of 4-0 tonight.

The Least You Should Know:
The Mets were able to overcome more pre-game distraction with Mike Pelfrey throwing 6 1/3 solid innings and not allowing a run.
Jeff Francoeur drove a run in for the fourth consecutive game, and he is hitting .321 with three homeruns and 16 RBI with the Mets.
The Mets bullpen was great once again as they did not allow a run for the third consecutive game.
Other Observations and Notes:
The Mets have won four games in a row for the first time since May 25-29 against the Nationals and Marlins.
Luis Castillo got a gift from home plate umpire Larry Vanover when he was called safe at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning, and he should have been called out.
Right now, the team appears relaxed and confident which is something we have not seen in a real long time, and it’s a positive sign that the Mets have played well against the Rockies in the midst of all of the negativity and distractions surrounding the team.
The Mets continue their series against the Rockies tomorrow night with Johan Santana facing Jason Hammel.
In a report on ESPN.com, Buster Olney says that the Phillies are exploring a trade for Indians LHP Cliff Lee.
The Indians, much like the Blue Jays in a deal for Roy Halladay, are looking for Major League talent to help them contend in 2010.
Lee, who will be 31 years old in August, is just 7-9 but has a 3.14 ERA with just 33 walks and 107 strikeouts in 152 innings.
Jeff Wilpon talked to reporters from the dugout in Citi Field today and said he put a call in to Adam Rubin of the Daily News to extend an apology .
He also said Omar Minaya is’ remorseful and upset,’ about the way things were handled, noting this has taken a toll on him in a very big way.
Wilpon said Minaya feels badly for the way the organization has been portrayed, and he apologized to ownership.
“Omar made a mistake,” Wilpon said. “He admitted he made a mistake and is apologetic for his mistake. It definitely went against all our company values… Omar is our GM. He’s going to be our GM… He has not been reprimanded… It hurt the organization. He has admitted that. He didn’t do the right thing… All I can do is apologize for that.”

Update, 3:20 pm:
MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have made a “strong offer” for Halladay.
The Red Sox reportedly offered Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden and Ryan Westmoreland for Halladay.
Original Post:
In a post to his blog for the New York Post, Joel Sherman is reporting that the Texas Rangers have entered the Roy Halladay sweepstakes.
Sherman notes that the Rangers have two stumbling blocks when it comes to completing a trade for Halladay.
One of the stumbling blocks, according to Sherman, is that the Rangers aren’t sure they want to give up three of their best five or six prospects in a deal, a requirement from the Blue Jays.
The other issue is money and the Blue Jays will not take Vincente Padilla’s $7 million contract in a deal.
Sherman also reports that the Rangers recently turned down a deal for Scott Kazmir, with the Mets being only mildly interested in a reunion.

There is a bogus Associated Press report floating around the Internets suggesting Johan Santana recently requested a trade from the Mets.
…from what i can gather, talking with people connected to the team, this is total nonsense… in fact, the Associated Press has not issued any such report, from what i can tell… i trust this is someone having fun with us, fans and reporters, on a day when our heads are spinning…
Speaking of pitchers…
Earlier this week, Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse said the Rays may look to trade Scott Kazmir, which, according to other reports, could free up money to help them acquire a pitcher like Cliff Lee.
SI.com’s Jon Heyman said on WFAN today that there are concerns that Kazmir is not working very hard, he’s throwing 91 mph,
not 96 mph like last season, and the Rays would rather save money and invest in other pitching, or a hitter like Indians C Victor Martinez.
Today, Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse says the Rays are still very interested in Martinez, and are talking with the Angels about Kazmir.
Lastly, the Phillies and Blue Jays appear to be the only two teams discussing RHP Roy Halladay, and are embattled in a tug-of-war over prospects, which you can read more about at MLB Trade Rumors.
In a post to his blog, Bobby’s Way, Bobby Valentine said yesterday he will not return to manage the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan next season.
According to the Associated Press, Lotte
management had decided before the season that it could not afford Valentine and would not renew his contract.
…this will be interesting… the way i understand it, Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel are tied to the hip… in short, if omar is ever fired, the new GM will hold jerry’s future in his hand… but, under no circumstance will minaya be firing jerry… so, to wish for bobby may be premature… that said, should the Mets be looking to a new team, build around youth, speed and strategic, aggressive baseball, bobby would be the way to go… say what you will about him, but the man knew his baseball… in fact, i think he thinks he invented the game – and, as a fan, i like that…
…i bet bobby’s blog post perked up the ears of the Nationals…
In case you missed it…
The Indians sent 1B-OF Ryan Garko to the Giants for Single-A LHP Scott Barnes, according to MLB.com.
Garko is arbitration eligible each of the next three seasons, and will be a free agent at the end of 2012.
The 28-year-old, right-handed hitting Garko is batting .285 with 11 HR and 39 RBI with a .362 OBP.
…he reads like the exact-type of player the Mets would have been looking for, i.e., under contract, good, not great, affordable here not there, and at minimal cost, who would have value to another team at two different positions if he’s expendable next spring… oh well…
Meanwhile, Barnes was San Francisco’s ninth-best prospect according to Baseball America; he was not ranked in Kevin Goldstein’s top 11 Giants prospects for Baseball Prospectus; and John Sickels of Minor League Ball ranked him as the team’s eighth-best pitching prospect, calling him an intriguing lefty, with ‘good stuff.’
The 21-year-old Barnes was 12-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 18 starts, and was fourth in the league in strikeouts.
