Prior to yesterday’s game, Jerry Manuel said Luis
Castillo will not start today’s 12:10 pm game, as he will be with his wife, who will be giving birth to their child in a local New York hospital.
“Hopefully, at some point, Luis will rejoin us,” Manuel said.
…from what i understand, castillo hopes to be back in the dugout before the end of Game 1…
Manuel later joked, considering how well Castillo has been playing, the only way he’d even consider giving him a day off would be if he’s having a kid.
Castillo is batting .400 with a .500 OBP in his last 70 at bats, raising his average to .306 on the season.

I hope when the kid is born the doctor does throw the baby up in the air to Luis.
ooooops I meant doesn’t throw the baby up in the air.
please use two hands when cradling the baby
Good luck Luis. Apparently you scored 9 months ago, now teach the rest of the team….
Awesome – 100 pitchers and 3 guys on the bench (incl back up catcher) for game 1.
I hope Johan brings it…and then Niese brings it. Two lefties, but one with a huge curve and the other with the changeup…i kinda like the difference.
Sucks we’re so shorthanded today. Congrats, Luis. I’ve never been happier to eat crow about a player being done. Keep up the good work, and I’ll be here cheering for you.
Congrats Luis! Here’s to having a healthy baby…now hurry up and get back on the field!
Wow, who would of thought that we’d actually be “missing” Luis from our line up. What a turnaround this guy has made from last year to this.
as someone noted yesterday the Mets are 4-12 when Luis doesn’t start. Sounds like he might be back in there in the night game.
I wonder if Cora will get a game off today. He probably hasn’t played two games in one day in a decade…
Luis, use two hands to hold the baby…
God Bless and Congrats Luis!
