Then cut Livan and keep Dessens. It really doesn’t matter, IMO.

As for Schneider, I disagree.

Santos: .264 avg, 6 HR, 27 RBI
Schneider: .208 avg, 3 HR, 21 RBI

I’ll take Santos. Plus, Santos calls just as good a game (if not better) than Schneider. It’s really a toss-up, but I think Santos has a little more to offer.

I agree for the most part, but I would go either with Figgy in the rotation and Dessens in the pen w/ Livan gone or Livan in the rotation w/ Figgy in the pen (because Livan is not a good option out of the pen).

Also – Schneider should be starting the lions share of the games behind the dish.

Moves that need to be made in-house right away:

1) Dessens to AAA.
2) Livan to the bullpen.
3) Redding to the airport.
4) Figueroa and Evans to NY.

Which gives us for the rest of the season until guys come back:

Rotation: Santana, Niese, Figueroa, Perez, Pelfrey

Lineup: Pagan, Castillo, K-Wright, Murphy, Francoeur, Evans, Santos, Cora

Bench: Tatis, Reed, Sullivan, Berroa, Schneider

Bullpen: Misch, Stokes, Feliciano, Green, Parnell, K-Rod, Livan

He is a pretty good hitting pitcher. He does have 9 career home runs and a .230 batting average I believe (although this year it’s lower). For a pitcher, those are excellent numbers.

I’ve always thought of Hernandez as a pretty good-hitting pitcher, but maybe that’s just because he’s always seemed to hit the Mets well. Have the Tigers bailed on Dontrelle Willis yet? Maybe we could add him as a bat off the bench :-)

I don’t have a problem with Livan hitting. I think its wise to always have this option on your team. Micah Owings, Mike Hampton, Carlos Zambrano extend the benches for any team they are on. I think its fair to have that kind of guy around or at least to have one or two pitchers who take BP to be ready in case needed. I’m sure with extra BP Livan is a better hitter.
Tom Glavine was such a good contact hitter he could be counted on to move any runner over if needed. I wish the Mets used a guy like this more often as its the “fundies” that win games and there are times when you need it and the bench players (Tatis) don’t know the “fundies”.

The object is to do whatever it takes to win. If this gives you a small advantage, sometimes that is all that is needed.
