The Mets have won fives games in a row.

In the second game of today’s double-header, the Mets and Rockies will play the final game of their four-game series tonight at 7:10 pm..

The Least You Should Know:

  • The Mets put together five consecutive hits in the second inning, including RBI hits from Omir Santos, Cory Sullivan and Angel Berroa, to give them a lead they’d never relinquish.
  • Johan Santana then pitched seven scoreless innings, struck out eight and allowed just four hits, while using 104 pitches.

Misc., Etc., and other Observations:

  • It’s a good day when some one says, ‘Vintage,’ and, ‘Johan.’  He had his fastball all over the zone, and the Rockies were chasing it, and chasing it and chasing it all day.  Finally, the difference between his fastball and change-up were back to where he likely wants it to be.
  • David Wright hit a ball to deep, deep right-center field, just in front of the bullpen, which might have been a home run in other parks.
  • The Mets need to thank the Colorado outfielders, who were bobbling and kicking the ball around the outfield on a few occasions.
  • Hmmm… Maybe the key to the winning streak isn’t the beards, but the string of apologetic press conferences.  Hey, can some other beat writer please be assumed of seeking a job, so Omar can out him, and keep this streak alive?
  • The Rockies have not scored against the Mets during the last 22 innings.

The Mets (49–51) conclude their four-game series against the Rockies (55–47) tonight at 7:10 pm, with Jon Niese taking on Jorge De La Rosa (8-7, 4.78 ERA).

    Great performance all around.

You hate to get greedy, but the difference between picking up 2 games and 4 games is huge.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but this has been a fun 5 games.

The bullpen has been great. I think they have a 20 consecutive scoreless inning streak going.

Anybody have an official figure for the pen’s scoreles streak?

I will just take the win – too early to worry about all these other teams. Just keep winning and it won’t be long til they vault over most of them.

Besides we have plenty of games left with all of these teams except Milwaukee (none left) and St. Louis (2 next week).

We all have to root for the Phils this series against SF
At least if the Cubs win it means Houston loses. Plus we have 6 games against the Cubs to pick up ground

It’s barely August. The Phillies made up 7 games on us in 2 weeks in 2007! It’s a slim shot, but of course you root against the Phillies!

Just root for the Mets to keep winning – we have plenty of time to catch the SFs of the world.

“He had his fastball all over the zone, and the Reds were chasing it, and chasing it and chasing it all day. ”

Were we playing two teams at once?

Great win. The only beef I have is with Jerry’s use of the bullpen. Why pitch Parnell and Redding in game 1 with a 7 run lead and 6 outs to go? Why not use just have one reliever warm up, and use him for two innings, keeping everyone else completely fresh for the nightcap? Probably won’t matter, since we have like 18 pitchers on the roster right now, but still.

Jerry probably felt that Redding could p!ss away a 7-run lead in two innings, but not in one. So with such a big cushion, he gave the 8th inning to his second-worst reliever, and the 9th to his worst. To their credit, they kept the gasoline in the can for once.

He has Feliciano, Green, Stokes, K-Rod for the second game.

Parnell had not pitched since the 24Th so it was a good time to get him work but no need to pitch him 2 innings as he is still available for game 2 now.
I think Redding was given only one inning because they will probably start him Monday as due to the rainout they need a 6TH starter . ( I would rather see Figgy)

Lets hope you are wrong about Redding on Monday.
