Mets SS Jose Reyes had a set-back this afternoon, Jerry Manuel told reporters prior to today’s game in Citi Field.
Reyes was unable to run hard around the bases, he explained, and there is no timetable for when he will do so.
Omar Minaya later said Reyes has two good days, then one bad day, and, ‘hopefully he
will start running the bases again this weekend.’ Reyes told Minaya he looks forward to getting back on the field tomorrow.
Minaya described a bad day for Reyes as being when he feels tightness in his leg.
Minaya also said Billy Wagner will pitch in a minor-league rehab game tonight for Florida State.
Minaya said John Maine is in St. Lucie, but still feels discomfort in his shoulder, and will continue to rest for a few days.
Carlos Beltran told Minaya he is feeling better, but they need to get him on the field and in to a rehab game before setting a definitive timetable for his return.

Let’s just shut him down for the season. He can play winter league ball to prove he’s better
definitely shut it down.
Jose Reyes has to be 100%. The difference between Jose at 100% and even 80% is one of the best SS in the league to a way below average one.
especially if what Carroll said about Beltran is true – the last thing the Mets need is a complete season without Beltran AND Reyes.
can we just shut him down already.
geez.
i rather him not play the final 10 games of the year at 70% and risk hurting himself further.
Beltran and Delgado are on target??? What is their target?
Oh wait but we arent going to make a trade because our guys are coming back right???
there is seriously no reason omar minaya would be any better as GM of this team than any randomly selected metsblog commenter
something seriously needs to be questioned here, first it was day to day and then the Mets let him play and clearly botched that.
Then he gets the tear in the tendon, surgery at that time was the most effective solution and it would have put Reyes out 3 months or so, possibly the season. We might have had him back after SURGERY at 100% in September.
NOW we have no idea when he is coming back, if at all and he hasnt had any surgery!
So now lets wait until the end of the season, put him under the knife and MAYBE hell be good to go for spring training NEXT YEAR!
What a catastrophe
We should be careful with Reyes. He’s been out for a while. If we are close in September maybe we re-evaluate but for now he should be doing his rehab or whatever under a close care of a doctor so he doesn’t hurt himself more. I assume only time will heal this type of injury. There is no reason to freak out, there is already only a slim chance of the playoffs if we make it there we’ll have to do it without some of the big guys. I for one don’t expect Delgado to contribute all that much when he comes back. If Beltran does come back he probably will have a positive impact considering how f-core has stepped it up and if murphy continues to hit that elogantes the lineup
Shut down Reyes and Beltran. Let Delgado do whatever he wants hes gone anyway. Enough of the mixed messages from the FO they say theyre waiting for their guys and the do nothing to help the current guys. I honestly think alot of the angry fans including myself would be satisfied if they just came out and shut down beltran and reyes and said we’re looking towards 2010. The last thing we need is reyes and or beltran missing part or all of 2010 bc the wilpons wanted to sell some tickets in september.
Completely agree. I love the mets and I love seeing the Mets as a competitive team but I cannot stand seeing any of these athletes harmed just to appease fans or for the sake of selling tickets.
At this point I’d simply enjoy seeing some of the raw talent that we have in the minors in September.
Sadly, this team has had such bad luck that we may have a weak club for several years. It’s too bad we had so many DL players. Selling for the future would have been a smart play.
These damn guys are made of paper!
Trade em for what ya can get and let’s sign some men to play for this team!
This, as the trade deadline strikes. I smell a rat!
I smell a silly, irrational post,
oh sorry Jeff
you are correct
all MLB teams have 16 guys on the DL and don’t care to know what is wrong with them.
What a jerk I am!
Sorry, you are so very knowedgable and on the “inside”
called this one..
Like I said when he got the cortisone shot- Reyes is done for the season…he was going to have to get surgery anyway, and the recovery time for a completely torn hamstring tendon vs. the recovery for the degree of Jose’s partial tear is negligible. No harm in trying to push it. I wouldn’t be surprised if at this point he has in fact torn it completely.
After the way this season went, even if the training staff isn’t to blame for this, there is no way they can all still be employed next year. It would be just like how they kept Willie after the collapse. Any time a player were to get hurt, the media will be all over it. The team just has to turn the page.
I’m with you Lorenzo…”We aren’t making a deal because our guys are coming back…” Oh wait, Jose isn’t coming back. And Beltran and Delgado? We don’t know WHEN they are coming back.”
This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does suck and we are constantly being lied to by upper management in regards to their status.
Looks like Lorenzo’s good post was removed.
lol yea I was just going to comment on that… i said nothing wrong.
lol yea I was just going to comment on that… i said nothing wrong and 5 people agreed with me
This is what I want them to say and I’ll stop cursing them on this site everyday:
1. Admit that Bernie Madoff wiped them out and they can’t add anymore payroll
2. We are giving up on the season and shutting Reyes and Beltran down.
Thats it just say it…
3. We are hiring Paul DePodesta as GM and Bobby Valentine as manager.
exactly I think people see our comments and think we are just angry bc the team isnt performing well. Not the case at all. Heck I’ll even go a step further I want them to shut down beltran and reyes bc frankly they cant make a run and maybe this way they will finish with the worst possible record giving them a great draft pick and one that cant be lost by signing a type A free agent.
Nice post, Lorenzo. Candor has never been a strong suit of the Wilpon regime, tho.
This type of honesty would undoubtedly hamper their ability to sell tickets and merchandise and concessions. Better to sell the dream that the cavalry is on its way. Who cares if it’s actually the Alamo, right?
I still recall Moises Alou’s injury in 2006. Quad strain, day-to-day. OK, maybe DL. OK, DL, back in 15 days. OK, torn quad. OK, 66 games later…..
It went on and on, and the fans turned on Alou, because the FO wasn’t honest and upfront with the communication of the injury at the outset. The FO seems content to let the players get blamed (“they’re soft”) or the team Drs. get blamed (“they’re inept”), and count the $$$ they get as fans continue to buy tickets and hold out hope.
