The team announced Gary Sheffield will be activated from the
disabled list prior to today’s game, while Robinson Cancel will designated for assignment.
Additionally, Nelson Figueroa will be promoted to start Monday against the D-Backs, since Tim Redding pitched in relief on Saturday.
Figueroa is 7–1 with a 1.51 ERA in his last 10 starts for Triple-A Buffalo.
…the question is, who will be removed from the roster to make room for figgy… i’m think Pat Misch, who has not pitched since July 19, despite having allowed just three runs in 13 innings pitched…

The sad thing is he will probably pitch Monday and be on a flight to Buffalo Tuesday…the guy has earned a spot on our roster for the rest of the season by being one of the best pitchers in all of AAA; if he goes back down I will be very angry.
i think if he pitches well he will stay, if he gets shelled…probably not
Livan continues to pitch well, so there’s no room for Figuerroa at the moment. Better to have him pitch regularly in AAA then go to the bullpen and sit for 2 weeks.
Let’s wait and see who cracks a fingernail this weekend so we can DL him Monday with a torn tendon.
I’d rather we keep Figgy and release Redding. The guy is a waste of space.
Additionally, if we DFA Figgy again, I’d be very surprised if another team did not pick him up, given how well he’s been pitching.
He may get sent down, but what are the chances that he doesn’t pitch better than Ollie has over his last three starts? I’m thinking Figgy could at least pitch into the 6th, walk less than 5, and give up 3 or less runs, which has pretty much been par for the course for Ollie.
I think Figgy is up for good. Given the non-waiver trade deadline has since passed and so many races are close, I don’t think he would pass through waivers at this point. He has pitched well lately, he has MLB experience and he is cheap.
I’d bet the chances of him staying in the bigs are better than his chances of stay with the Mets.
Wouldn’t any number of teams think he is worth a shot when it costs almost nothing? Reds, Rockies, Astros…
same lineup as yesterday with pelf pitching…nice to see jerry not just throw sheff into the lineup when this lineup has won 6 straight…or all 6 chances
Keep in mind, Misch is probably out when Wagner comes back anyway – this lets Redding stay around a little longer, but I think Figueroa can win that job from him – the long-man/spot, starter gig….
Misch has been out for the last two weeks as well. If he isn’t going to pitch they might as well replace him on the roster.
Figgy could stay and be a quick hook option for Perez. They lost Dessens recently, so having a reliable long man would be a good idea.
Interesting that the Mets DFA Cancel when they could option him. Thinking ahead for clearing an extra 40 man roster spot for Wagner.
I’m glad Gary is back his is certainly a pinch hitting option better than some other ones we have trotted out there. I’m glad Jerry has kept the lineup the same, it has worked so far and hopefully today we can start another winning streak.
