They should have never let Niese take that warm-up pitch. I hope he heals well. Niese was one of the few pleasant surprises this year.

You do have a point, for the most part. The problem is, the little we had over the years we have traded to get people like Santana, Putz and Delgado all great trades. Now we are depleted waiting for the next generation which is at least a year away (2011). Do you trade all those guys away to get a Carlos Lee type player? how about a 30 year old Victor Martinez (not sure what they really wanted). Its a difficult spot for Omar and I wouldnt want to be in it.

think about this, if he trades the farm to get a top flight LF and #2 starter then either one of them flops or one of our core gets hurt, or Beltran ends up having to retire because of his knees..then he will have an inflated payroll, no prospects, a bad team and a losing record.

No Omar can’t. No general manager can. And now going into the off-season he has no real trade bait unless he unloads 2 or 3 Class A/AA prospects on someone willing to do it for a premier player.

I could care less if niese is in our rotation next year. I think he is at best a #3/4 starter. What I care about is we cant trade him now. LOL.

lorenzo…lets be serious here. His biggest value to this team was his trade value. Now thats gone. That leave us with 1 chip who is ready now as trade bait.

This is really too bad. I could live with just about anyone else going down, but this was the perfect time to see what guys like Niese and F-Mart had.

That’s the worst thing about having no major-league ready prospects. If those guys were another year along, we could spend these last two months getting a look at Davis, Holt, etc.

There’s nothing worse than watching meaningless games starring Alex Cora, Angel Berroa and Gary Sheffield.

This was a terrible break for a nice kid; however, it just reinforces the tenuous rope your “Untradable Prospects” walk. Look at all the players we could have had for Milledge over the years and now our top 2 guys, FMart and Niese, are untradeable due to injuries. I think someone in the Mets front office should be looking into the real math behind minor league talent. They have DWright, Reyes, Pelfrey, Parnell, Pagan, and Murphy from their farm system. Most teams have no more than that. Trying to hold on to too many “prospects” with a death grip ensures you’ll have many that never pan out. Now we’re stuck with our “prospects”.

is anybody else wondering how a perfectly good hamstring could just tear? It seems that your hamstring should be able to withstand that type of split he made, maybe it can’t i don’t know but it seems like such a freak injury to me
