According to a team press release, “Jose Reyes has scar tissue and inflammation behind the right knee, related to the hamstring tendon injury, which has caused continued pain.”
Reyes will continue physical therapy in hopes of breaking up the scar tissue and reduce the inflammation.
…the team has not said so, but, at this late date, this must mean he is effectively done for the season… i mean, he’s going to need time to work back, run full speed, etc., then play minor league games, all for what, to play in a week or two in September…
…is it me, or has this been a long, strange trip for reyes… first it was a cramp, then he hurt it on the flight, he rested, it was a calf, then a hamstring, then a tendon, he had platelet therapy, now there is scar tissue and still issues with the hamstring, all while months have gone by…

I wonder what wouldve happened if he just had surgery when he initially got hurt.
OR if they just shut him down for 15 to 21 days when he first got hurt.
I think that there must a curse on Citifield. We should have never gotten rid of Shea Stadium. The ghosts of Casey Stengel and Gil Hodges must not be happy.
I don’t know about Casey, but GIl must be very pleased with CitiField – it should remind him of Ebbet’s Field.
Any one see the Tom Seaver commercials for the Veterans?
Is it me or is Tom looking and acting more and more like William Shatner?
I grew up with Seaver and Kopeman. Seaver was in a separate universe where only he and a very select group existed. My favorite Tom Territic moment, and there were an infinite number of possibilities, was his 300th victory. It was with the White Sox, but it was at old Yankee Stafium on, and here is the magic, Phil Rizzuto day. Yes, during the ore-game ceremonies there was an endless parade of Yankee propaganda and even a live vow was presented to the “Scooter”. But Tom was Terrific that day and won #300. White and Messer were having fits. White kept saying that Seaver should have thrown the game to honor Rizzto. I have if on VHS. I need to watch it.
I reply hate the spell check on this phone. Well, fat fingers don’t help either.
Every time I hear Met only needs to “break up scar tissue” it turns out that actually, they need surgery. I can’t believe there is no serious talk of firing the medical staff including the Hospital for Special Surgery.
The hospital for Special Surgery and the one used before them (the Hospital for Joint Diseases) are two of the best hospitals in the entire world for sports type injuries. I have had a wrist and rotator cuff/labral surgeries at these hospitals and as long as I did what the doctor told me everything turned out fine. It seems to be that the mets training staff does not have a strong enough voice in how these injuries are handled. When guys get hurt why are they always day to day for a month? I suspect it is the front office that is responsible.
Wagner threw another scoreless inning of rehab tonight. He’s been overpowering the FSL hitters which is a real nice change from how on and off guys like Duque, Pedro, and Perez have been while on rehabs. I think his stuff will be fine when he gets back.
They should do whatever is best for Reyes’ leg and if he is healthy on Sept 25th then he comes back then. There is no sense shutting him down just for the sake of shutting him down. When he is really ready he should play.
Clearly the goal is to get Wagner back here to showcase him…he would be a nice addition to a contender and could get us something decent in return.
can somebody explain to me how this happened, was nobody monitoring this situation?
Ok, I’m talking to you now Wilpon, I know you read this site because you are SOOOOO concerned with the team’s public image.
At some point, a lot of us are going to start wondering what kind of dirty, under-the-table deal you have with this medical staff. There is no ****ing way any other team in the league would tolerate such miserable failure from it’s medical staff on a conistent basis.
Let’s see, as bad as you all ****ed up with the Kazmir trade, Victor Zambrano passed a physical exam from the teams doctors, a-ok to go out there and be an ace. I guess having a paper mache ligaments are enough for the good people at Special Surgery.
Ryan Church, the teams MVP for the first few months, suffers a concussion, and is advised by DOCTORS to fly around the country and PLAY BASEBALL, at risk of death. Who knows what we couldve had on our hands if it wasnt for the terrible handling of that situation.
Carlos Delgado…..did you even give him a physical before picking up his option? I never heard about one.
Carlos Beltran…you all are about to end the career of one of the best pure players this sport has seen in decades. Say what you will about Pujols, and he IS a monster, but he doesnt play Center Field.
John Maine…Shouldve been given proper time to recover from shoulder surgery, who knows if he’ll ever be a starter again.
Jose Reyes….Had he been given the proper time off instead of rushing him back, he wouldnt have aggravated all these other parts of his leg.
J.J. Putz….sure glad we ok’d sending NINE ****ING PLAYERS over to seattle for 3 weeks of putz, and the GROUND BALL MACHINE who cant throw a strike when the game is on the line. Couldve had Huston Street for much less.
Oliver Perez….did we ever even get a definitive answer on wtf was wrong with him? I heard something about a knee, but never a clear diagnosis. Where the hell is his velocity and why has noone questioned it?
This front office/trainers/management has mishandled absolutely everything, and I, for one am sick of it.
I guaran-damn-tee you Niese will not be ready to return by spring training, A full muscle tear takes 9 months to recover from. May is 9 months away, too late for spring training. By the time we see Niese again in the bigs, itll be June, the earliest, and who knows if he’ll even have his velocity back without a fully healed push off leg.
Of course, since our training staff’s track record isnt exactly sparkling, I’m just going to assume that he wasnt adequately stretched out before the game. Id love to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they havent exactly earned it.
Some interesting points there, King. I think your Ollie argument is the strongest. I can’t remember hearing anything definitive about his alleged knee injury. My guess is that it was made up to cover up the fact that we have $36 million to a mental midget. But yes, where is that 4-5 mph?
But where are you getting this 9 month timetable for young Niese? That’s impossible to guess right now. I also wouldn’t worry about him pushing off the rubber when he does return. If any LHP pushed off with his right leg he would throw like you probably do. Zing!
Imagine you went to a doctor for ten weeks and he told you that everything was fine, all that you needed was rest, and then after ten weeks the doctor told you that there was scar tissue build up. Would you go to that doctor again?
Actually, the formation of scar tissue is a normal part of the healing process. It does cause pain, and breaking up that tissue is the next step. It can take time however for healthy tissue to form after getting rid of the bad stuff.
They should just shut him down until he is fully ready. If he has the baseball itch, let him play winter ball.
Matt, were you not following the team in 2003 when Reyes had a strained hammy that lasted longer than his current tear? He was “a week away” for the last two months — April 11 he said he was 80% and starting rehab, and without a setback he came back June 14.
I’d like to see one of the kids get a long look. We know what Cora and Berroa can do. i’d like to see Tejada, Malo, or Coronado
