In a press conference, Omar Minaya said the team consulted with team doctors, who consulted with a concussion specialist, after which they decided to put David Wright on the 15–day disabled list, adding:
“David wanted to try and give it a chance, and go out there and play – but, we decided to take it away from David. He really wanted to try and play, but based upon our doctors and specialist recommendations we said no… He tried to fight me, he said, ‘Come on, man, give me a chance,’ he definitely wants to be here, but he understood.”
Minaya said Wright is home, he has a headache, and he will rest, and there are no plans to shut him down for the rest of season.

Omar Minaya announced after Sunday’s game that David Wright has been put on the 15-day DL with his head injury.
Minaya stressed that Wright wanted to stay with the club, but that after consulting with medical experts, the team decided it was in Wright’s best interest to rest.
Wright joins John Maine, Jon Niese, Fernando Nieve, J.J. Putz, Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado, Ramon Martinez, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Fernando Martinez on the Mets’ disabled list.

For a full recap and boxscore, go here.
The least you should know:
Mike Pelfrey dominated the weak Giants lineup until the 8th inning, when he appeared to tire and allowed the Giants to tie the game on a pair of doubles.
Luis Castillo provided the Mets’ first two runs with a 420-foot blast into the second deck in left field at Citi. No kidding.
Jonathan Sanchez was kind of good for the Giants in a seven-inning, two-run effort. He struck out seven but walked four and threw one of the wildest pitches I’ve ever seen.
Francisco Rodriguez entered the game in a non-save situation for the second straight day, but this time he shut the Giants down in order in the top of the 9th.
After an infield single by Jeff Francoeur in the bottom of the 9th, Fernando Tatis bunted him over and Daniel Murphy singled him in for a walk-off win.
Pelfrey hit 97 on the Citi Field radar gun a couple of times with his fastball and was still hitting 95 in the 8th inning. He finished with five strikeouts and two earned runs in 7 1/3 innings.
Anderson Hernandez got a workout at shortstop with Pelfrey yielding a lot of ground balls. Hernandez threw a couple of balls wildly, one for an error and a few that Murphy saved.
Castillo’s home run was his first of the season and only the fourth by a Mets middle infielder this year. He got his money’s worth, though; he crushed it.
Pelfrey has pitched into the 8th inning three times this season but has yet to pitch out of it.
Pedro Feliciano‘s seven-pitch outing in the 8th moved him back into a tie for the Major League lead in appearances. Your move, Peter Moylan.
I’m not sure how new this is, but I’ve never seen it before: The Mets aired a video of Jon Stewart leading a “Lets Go Mets” cheer. Someone in front of me booed him.
The Game Ball:
Goes to Murphy, obviously.
The Mets have said David Wright is experiencing post concussion symptoms
Wright saw a neurologist last night and this morning, and has been sent home from the hospital to rest.
The Mets say he has a headache, and should be back at the ballpark during the early part of next week.
There is no specific timetable for his return.
…that said, i would have to think wright will hit the disabled list, if for no other reason than the team can not afford to go through with wright what it went through with Ryan Church last season…

The Mets conclude their series with the Giants at 1:10 pm today at Citi Field.
Fernando Tatis will hit fifth and play third base in place of David Wright, who has been diagnosed with “Post Concussion Syndrome”.
Angel Pagan will leadoff, followed in order by Luis Castillo, Gary Sheffield, Jeff Francoeur, Tatis, Daniel Murphy, Omir Santos, and Anderson Hernandez.
Mike Pelfrey (8-8, 4.88 ERA) will start for the Mets. Pelfrey balked three times in his outing against the Giants on May 17, but overall pitched well despite taking the loss. He allowed two runs in six innings in that game, and lifetime he is 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA in two career appearances against San Francisco.
Jonathan Sanchez (5-10, 4.61 ERA) will start for the Giants. Sanchez tossed a no-hitter in July against San Diego, but overall has been inconsistent for the Giants this season. He is 2-1 with a 4.42 ERA against the Mets during his career, but when the Mets were in San Francisco in May, they battered him for four runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Through June 30, Francisco Rodriguez had earned 20 saves while blowing just two, compiling a 1.23 ERA over the first three months of the season.
However, since July 1, Rodriguez has already blown three saves while earning just six, and he has compiled a 7.79 ERA over that stretch, including a 12.79 ERA so far in the month of August.
He allowed the game winning home run to Bengie Molina in the top of the tenth inning yesterday.
Rodriguez has been especially vulnerable to the home run, as he has allowed five already this season compared to four allowed all of last season.
…it seems that throughout the year Rodriguez hasn’t ever have the smoothest of outings…that said he seemed to have more velocity and life on his pitches early on, and combining that with guile he was able to put out his own fires…
…lately his fastball velocity has been down and too close to the speed of his breaking pitches…that could be attributed to fatigue but this was the same pitcher that saved 62 games in 67 chances last year…
