Eric of Amazin Avenue looks at the Rise and Fall of Daniel Murphy.
…look, i’m not saying murphy will be Albert Pujols, but how can any one say a 24-year-old kid who is batting .250 through only 160 career games has fallen… where has he fallen from… that said, eric is correct, in that the Mets need to be honest about what murphy is capable of, and how that fits in at first base, and how that fits in to the overall structure of their offense and ballpark…
Speaking of Murphy, he has a walk-off hit yesterday, in the team’s win
against the Giants, which Mets Walkoffs breaks down with a variety of stats and historical elements, such as, “It’s the second time the Mets have beaten a pitcher, last name Romo, via walk-off.”
Meanwhile, in a post to Hot Foot, Andrew plays a game of Name that Injury.
ESPN.com’s Peter Gammons finds the Mets forgettable, according to evidence presented by Ump Bump.

For the first time this season, there is a locker waiting for Billy Wagner in the clubhouse in Citi Field.
Jerry Manuel told reporters on Saturday that he expects Wagner to rejoin the Mets sometime in the next few days.
… i wonder who the Mets will cut from the roster, to make room for wagner… i suspect it will be either Elmer Dessens or Andy Green…

Luis Castillo hit his first home run of the season yesterday, and his first in 475 at bats, belting a ball into the second deck in left-center field during the fifth inning.
… he clobbered the ball, yet he ran out of the box, leaped out of the box, like he was stealing first base… it was a bomb, too… incredible… i mean, i don’t see many guys put the ball up there even during batting practice, let alone in the game, let alone castillo… nice work…
“I feel good because we won the game,” Castillo said following the game. “I’m not a guy that hits a lot of home runs, so I didn’t want to be looking at it. But, when I came in, Santana said, ‘The big guys hit them there.’”
It was the first home run by a Mets second baseman this season.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, courtesy of ESPN.com, entering play Sunday, Mets second basemen were the only group of players at any position on any major-league team (excluding pitchers and National League designated hitters) without a home run this year.

Castillo is batting .304 with 14 extra base hits and 13 stolen bases with a .398 OBP in 101 games this season.
He’s batting .343 in 50 games when batting second in the order.
…if he continues on this pace, it will mean castillo has hit over .290 in eight of his last nine seasons, with last season being the exception… he said he was in pain last season, and out of shape, as he recovered from knee surgery… lots of fans booed him anyway, and i bemoaned his re-signing – as did others… perhaps he and Omar Minaya were right, though… time will tell… for what it’s worth, Orlando Hudson is batting .298 with a .360 OBP, 42 extra base hits and seven stolen bases, while batting mostly in the second and third spot in the batting order… with Jose Reyes in the order, castillo does a great job of moving him around the bases… when the team is slumping, though, and struggling to score, and in desperate need of an extra base hit, hudson would be a nice option… it will be interesting to see how minaya handles second base this off season, because hudson again will be a free agent… what’s more, castillo will now be due just $12 million over the next two seasons, which, suddenly, is not so bad…
In a post to Brooklyn Met Fan, Adam lists a few reasons why Castillo is the team’s MVP this season.
