The Mets put infielder Alex Cora on the 15-Day disabled list, retroactive to August 13.

Wilson Valdez was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Cora – he will be available for tonight’s game.

Valdez hit .208 in 11 games with the Mets earlier this season.  However, he’s hitting .400 in his last 35 at bats with Buffalo.

it’s just so hard to believe that he’s the best option to replace cora… but, at this point, pre-September, given the standings, it makes no sense to burn a shirt… so, valdez it is stay hot, buddy

These are the infielders on the Mets current 25-man roster:

Luis Castillo
Wilson Valdez
Anderson Hernandez
Andy Green
Fernando Tatis
Daniel Murphy

Wow.

Argenis Reyes is the only other option, ugh.

Angel Berroa seems to be stuck on the waiver wire, he hasn’t gone to the minors yet.

This is BS!!! Not worth it to “burn a shirt?” Give me a break! Get Ruben Tejada up here. I don’t care if we have to keep him on the 40 man next year. Cora may or may not be back after surgery on 2 thumbs and these retreads (Valdez & A. Green) won’t be on the team either. To make it worth watching down the stretch (I’ll be watching anyway) call up some young blood and mix it in here! Play Tejada everyday at SS. Move Murphy over to 3B and see if Ike Davis can hit in the majors. And get Thole up here! Schneider is gone, Tatis is toast these slappy SS replacements are garbage. Get Livan out of the rotation too! Give me anyone, even Figgy to replace him. Time to look toward next year 100%. Don’t go half way.
