Matt, when you say “some players on the team”, are you talking about anyone who’s been on the team for longer than 5 months, or are you talking about, say, Gary and Jeff?

I think that’s nuts. Haven’t you seen what how lucky we are to have Reyes by the fact of us not having him this year? Trade one of the best 26 yr old everyday players at a premium position for a pitcher? Nuts.

In all fairness, when Niese got hurt, the dirt gave out from under him, and he did a complete stretch. It’s hard to train for that if you just aren’t that flexible.

great points and it seems more than ever 2009 is a lost season, i keep hearing people saying oh it’s great to come back and help us win a few games and help the team but what is the point in that to sacrifice the health of a player for a meaningless season. If we were in a pennant race things would be different but we aren’t. Why should Reyes push himself to come back and risk injury. Health is important.

Beltran is not shy or he’s not going to hide his displeasure. If he is really unhappy, he’s going to at most shut up about it — not say anything directly to the media.

In the article I quoted from, he goes out of his way to absolve the medical doctors. So I think he was speaking his mind.

He’s either soft or he isn’t.

If we think he is soft, then so will 29 other teams. What value will he bring.

If he is really hurt, then we expect him to come back strong and he’s our shortstop.

I’m confused by bloggers who want to sell high on a player who has lowered his value. Can’t have it both ways.

I think it is pointless to bring him back. This team is going no where

i agree, but id go for bigger….reyes, fmart + another low level prospect for halladay….they want a good SS in the deal, or so its been reported…

you have a good point, but at the same time, is beltran really going to bash the mets front office and medical personnel in public through the media, probably not, so he would say all the correct things which he did
