News: JJ Putz Out for the Season

By Matthew Cerrone on Aug 25, 2009, 9:19 pm

JJ Putz was scratched from his rehab assignment in Single-A Brooklyn tonight.

According to Newsday’s David Lennon, in a post to Twitter, Putz has been shut down for the season as he is dealing with an issue in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right forearm.

this is so ridiculous, i can’t even keep up… at this point, it would not shock me to see Mr. Met starting on the infield tomorrow

update, 9:24 pm, by Michael Baron:

According to Brian Costa of the Star Ledger, Putz will not undergo surgery and he was shutdown as a pre-cautionary measure.

I think Cerrone needs to add a doctor to the Metsblog staff.

Assume we will decline his option and not offer arbitration at this point……..

So what’s next? Locust night at Citi Field?

Better bring your pint o’ lambs blood to the ballpark at this point.. You’ll need it when the next few plagues hit and all the lights go out.

        Seriously……

I’m actually surprised the team didn’t get swine flu this summer when that was suspected………would anyone be surprised at this point if that happened?

actually lol… A bunch of guys including Carlos Beltran missed some games in the beginning of the year because of the flu. Maybe it wasnt swine but it was the flu… Close enough

Methead your obviously being sarcastic but please tell me why your a huge fan of Omar Minaya and what you feel constitutes a successful season. Please dont tell me Omar is doing a good job because we’ve played meaningful games in September most of the years he was GM because that would be sad. Dont you want to win a World Series or atleast make the playoffs?????

I don’t think many people at all want to see Omar next season. I would say most Mets fans want to see him somewhere else entirely next year. I’m one of them.

I think the big divide between Mets fans are people who blame Omar for everything and people who give injuries their fair due. I see myself in the 2nd.

Omar has been bad with filling holes before they’re issues (1B, LF, #2 SP — though I don’t know how much the Wilpon’s ponzi issue cost us a shot at someone like Tex at first), and horrible with the farm system.

So he should be fired. But I can’t blame him for the injuries, especially some of the fluke ones (Wright, Castillo and the stairs, 3 thumb ligaments for 2 players). Though we all knew Delgado and Sheff were too old and the pitching was always suspect. Omar should be fired, but this entire season cannot be put in his lap.

can we decline his option and then sign him for really cheap? low risk/high reward type thing

Sure, we can do whatever we want I suppose. Given his injury history this season, I can’t see anything guaranteed…..and I’m sure some team will be out there to give him something more than we would be looking to give him……so I don’t see him signing here.

Although I know the Santana news could be worse, it’s amazing how such news can come out of Santana, Putz, Francoeur and Sheffield all in a matter of how many days? I don’t think there’s a player who hasn’t experienced some type of injury on this roster. Remember when K-Rod ”collapsed?” Castillo falling down the steps, Schneider’s back, Redding’s injuries, Wright almost getting hit in the head, than getting hit in the head. You can’t make it up.

Pelfrey, Feliciano, Green, Stokes, A. Hernandez, Santos, Reed, Sullivan, Tatis & Murphy all better watch themselves. That’s a pretty short list of nobodies.
