Read: Injuries and Transactions

In case you missed it…

Billy Wagner was traded to the Boston Red Sox for two players to be named later.  Early buzz is that one of the players is outfielder Chris Carter, who is batting .279 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI for the Pawtucket Red Sox this season.

Johan Santana will undergo season ending surgery to repair chips in his throwing elbow, but according to pitching coach Dan Warthen, this injury has nothing to do with the problems he had in February, as Omar Minaya says he knee was more of an issue at the time.

Minaya did say that Santana had his elbow examined around the All-Star Break, but there was nothing new found in his elbow.

Warthen said that the team did not shut Santana down at that time because he told management that he could pitch through the problem.

J.J. Putz was scratched from his appearance for Brooklyn tonight, and it is now not known whether or not he will pitch again in 2009.

Oliver Perez has returned to New York to have his knee re-examined.

Both Nick Evans and Pat Misch have been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, and Misch will start on Friday if Perez is unable to pitch.

…there is a game tonight at 7:10 pm, against the Marlins in Miami by the way…

By the way — when they’re examining Ollie, shouldn’t they look at his head rather than his knee?

How many guys are we going to further injure because they think they are able to play. Church last year, Delgado and Santana this year. I guess Wright is the only one that doesn’t get a say.

I almost don’t blame Reyes for not wanting to go back out there.

Exactly what does our medical staff do. Santana called all the shots throughout this ordeal.

Now Dan Warthen is practicing medicine too? Since when is an elbow injury not related to an elbow injury? Did he injure it the first time golfing?…

Matt needs to print new tee shirts.

I have never seen anything like this debacle in my whole life. I am not blaming anyone and I am done getting upset. I will continue to watch the games and enjoy the fact that they are stress free and there is nothing on the line right now. I have accepted that fact.

In trying to be positive, I almost can’t believe the Mets are only 11 games under .500 given the state of the team this year. I will give some credit to a reborn Luis Castillo, a slight boost from Frenchy and some excitement from Pagan.

    Haha…ridiculous.

Has there been any mention of the PTBNLs for Wagner?

BOS has a promising young catcher, Mark Wagner, who was at AA for most of the year before going up to Pawtucket. He would be ready faster than Thole, I think…

I am excited to hear Carter could be part of this deal, if only because I was looking at all of the guys on Boston’s system over the weekend and he struck me as a relaistic target who could help here. So I feel smart or something.

Seems like a bit of a AAAA guy, but he’s never got a real chance in Boston. Career .300 minor league hitter, with pop, 1B-OF type…alot of things this team could use.

Feel good about this half, let’s see what else is coming.
