Prior to today’s game in Chicago, Omar Minaya told reporters that Josh Thole will be promoted to the Mets in September.
Minaya did say that call-ups in general will be delayed until around September 6 due to the fact that the minor league teams are shorthanded.
…not that the big club has been playing shorthanded all year…
Jerry Manuel said before the game that Thole might be limited to facing right handed hitters.
…not sure I would agree with that either…I mean lets see what this kid can do without limiting his exposure, and keeping him healthy at the same time…

Michael I agree with you…Why hold the kid back? Lets see what he’s got. Does anyone really care if Schneider losses atbats??? The guy is useless, let the kid play!
This is the same Jerry Manuel that said Murphy was “his guy” and that he would only rest him sometimes against LHP…yet Fernando Tatis dominated playing time for half the season, against both RHP and LHP.
My point is, nothing Jerry says can be trusted anymore. But I agree, Thole should play every day.
Yes, Thole should play everyday…is there a reason he shouldn’t? Has there been any word on F-Mart? I thought he was supposed to be out 6 weeks…not that it would surprise me not to see him again…but i digress….
Thole isn’t going to play everyday…
But he should play more than the occasional PH (hello Nick Evans) and Thole can hit lefties just fine in the minors so I don’t see why they should protect him. They should pair him up with two of the starting pitchers and have him work with them primarily. His defense is his weak point and they could protect him by not trying to make him learn 12 new pitchers. He wasn’t at AAA so he hasn’t caught anyone on the Mets staff since March, if at all…
Lorenzo, Thole playing against lefties would take AB’s away from Santos, not Schneider. Schneider bats lefty, Santos righty…
It’s too bad he wasn’t at AAA all year. Then he’d be completely at home with everyone on the Mets’ staff…
He’s hit lefties and righties equally well all year, so yeah, now’s a GREAT time to mess with that…
Can we please rid ourselves of Jerry Manuel. His one-size-fits-all approach to managing is absolutely awful.
