But he should play more than the occasional PH (hello Nick Evans) and Thole can hit lefties just fine in the minors so I don't see why they should protect him. They should pair him up with two of the starting pitchers and have him work with them primarily. His defense is his weak point and they could protect him by not trying to make him learn 12 new pitchers. He wasn't at AAA so he hasn't caught anyone on the Mets staff since March, if at all... Lorenzo, Thole playing against lefties would take AB's away from Santos, not Schneider. Schneider bats lefty, Santos righty... Thole isn’t going to play everyday…
