According to MLB.com, Mets 1B prospect Ike Davis has been added to the USA’s roster for the World Cup, which will take place in Europe from Sept. 9-27.
The 22–year-old Davis is hitting .307 with a .386 OBP, 26 extra base hits and 41 RBI in 54 games since being promoted to Double-A.
Davis will also represent the Mets during this year’s Arizona Fall League.
In a recent chat for ESPN.com, Keith Law said he is looking forward to watching Davis in the AFL, as he has exceeded Law’s expectations by hitting well in Double-A this year.

Last year on this site I blasted the Ike Davis pick. I want to take responsibility for that and say that it appears that I was wrong. I hope that I remain wrong in that assessment.
Ike Davis… come on down… you’re next on the NY Mets prospect hype express!!
Is it still considered the NY Mets prospect hype express when the numbers do ALL the talking?
I have to agree here. The Mets themselves seem to be doing very little Ike Davis hyping. His numbers are making the statement.
this is just the beginning. a guy has a great season at AA, he puts his game out on to a new, more visible platform like a World Cup team… then all the sudden the hype begins. don’t get me wrong, i like Ike and i’m excited to see what he can do… but i’m hoping the express doesn’t get derailed once again.
He’s been doing some damage against lefties, too, recently. His AA splits are far more palatable now. Just last night he went 3-4 with a 2B and HR, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI, all off a lefty.
I really hope this kid can develop. It would be good if we could offer delgado arbitration or sign a gap filler for 1 year while davis goes to AAA next year and hopefully in 2011 he will be our everyday starting 1Bmen.
Murphy could do a servicable job at 1B – as long as they address the LF situation I have no problem with Murphy being that gap filler and batting 7th in the order.
This happened like last week… jeez metsblog.
Christian Friedrich was still the better pick
