View: Metssloppily Game Board from WSJ’s Fry

By Matthew Cerrone on Sep 04, 2009, 10:40 am

Jason Fry, of Faith and Fear in Flushing, has created an amazing graphic for the Wall Street Journal, equating the Mets messy season to a game of Monopoly, a.k.a., ‘Metssloppiliy.’

…wow, jason… out… standing…

…amazing work, my manthere are so many funny, sad, clever things in that graphic, i am not even sure which to highlight… in other words, just go check it out here

Also, check out Andrew’s post to Hot Foot, in which he explains how the Mets can pinch pennies in the bullpen.

Lastly, according to the Associated Press, “A federal judge on Thursday sentenced former major league pitcher Jerry Koosman to six months in prison for not paying his taxes.”

“Starting in 2011 the Mets will pay loathed former slugger Bobby Bonilla $1.1 million in deferred annual money – and keep doing so until 2035″.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Whatever – the whole convoluted deal came about because they were too cheap to just buy his contract out outright and make him go away.

I hope he comes to CitiField every two weeks to pick up his checks in person.

Actually scratch that – the Wilpons will talk him into coming on as the team’s hitting coach, since they would rather have people on the payroll working, no matter how woefully ineffective, than cut their losses and move on.

Actually if you want to wax intellectual about it, the Bonilla deferred payment plan was actually a smart business move on the Wilpons part and dumb for BobbyBo to actually accept it. I forget what the dollar amount on his contract left when he was cut was, but with time value money from 2011 – 2035, it was actually CHEAPER for the Wilpons to do that then just buy his contract out right. While it sounds bad to us, Bonilla actually gets less money in the long run than if he just demanded it. I did a case study of this when i was doing my masters – it was funny b/c I was at first one of those fans outraged by it!

didn’t they make money on that money they are paying Bobby Bonilla through the interest, i remember reading an article about that

also very clever game, i enjoyed it except when it got to the train wreck parts and i had to relive church not touching third, castillo’s drop-up and the triple play

Yea they made 30% a year on their money while the rest of the world was losing 10-15%.. hahahaha.. How are people so dumb? The Wilpons like everyone else who invested with Madoff are G R E E D Y… that is what it comes down to… No one stopped and asked any questions… These are the id*ots that run our organization.
