I am not sure.

I feel like the best approach for the draft is to draft the best guys on the table while addresses the clubs needs. Slot or not. But we all know it takes an above slot offer to land a great first rounder vs a good one.

Well said. However, I'd like to think the Mets don't have to model their draft strategy after a micro-market team like the Pirates.

Matt,

I disagree on the logic of going above-slot in the early rounds. If a team's draft budget is $4M, why spend half of that on one player. I think that the Pirates draft strategy this year is the wave of the future.

They took a guy at slot in the first round, but then took the save money and went above slot in rounds 5-10 where one can really find a lot of value.

The result is that the Pirates were able to land 7-8 very good prospect instead one great prospect and some so-so prospects.

It is a step in the right direction, but the fact that Omar is still running the show is very disconcerting.
