This sounds selfish and immature…but we don’t know all the reasons. It’s probably become clear to him that he will not be back in a Mets uniform next year.

That said, the further Delgado gets from the Mets clubhouse the better. He wielded too muc influence in the clubhouse and the torch needs to be passed…

Yeah I agree, what is this? Just leaving the team, suck it up and stick it out with your team. I would assume this means he won’t be asked back for 2010 which is pretty much okay with me. If he wants to play next year it should be at DH, i’m sure some AL would sign him but maybe this team will be better off without his attitude

Bringing Delgado back with cost at least $5M. I’d rather they spend the money elsewhere, especially if it’s going to be a tight offseason as predicted.

I would not bring Delgado back under any circumstance.

As for Reyes, why even let him try and run the last week of the season…..why even chance reaggrivating it?

I think Delgado is all but off the team.

At this point I would not be opposed to bringing him back for 1 year, because while I am not comfortable with handing Murphy the full-time job, I am comfortable with him as the primary backup and a guy who can jump in if Delgado goes down. If not Delgado, I’d like to see a similar set up. Is Jim Thome officially a no-go defensively? Does anyone think with a full spring he could play the position? Haven’t heard his name come up, but for a 1-year stop gap, with Murph behind him and Davis coming, could be interesting.
