David Wright is hitting just .221 with 30 strikeouts in just 23 games since returning from the disabled list on September 1.
Wright has also struck out a career-high 135 times, exceeding his prior high of 118 from last season.
Jerry Manuel told reporters that Wright will have tonight off.
…i have said it all year long that it has been a bizarre season for David but if you take his stats prior to his stint on the disabled list…he was in the top five in hitting all year despite missing some key pieces as protection in the lineup…that said, the strikeouts have been alarming this year and the injury didn’t cause his power outage…
Wright admits that he and the rest of his teammates are disappointed in the way 2009 turned out, telling reporters:
“”There’s not many positives we can take away from this year as a whole…It’s not a learning process dealing with failure. I’m ready after that last out to turn the page and get ready for next year, because this hasn’t been fun for anybody. In fact, it’s been very disappointing.”
Despite that disappointment, Wright is not mailing the rest of the season in, telling reporters that he takes a lot of pride in his at bats and is out there playing to win.

Mr Wright’s annual “Wait Til Next Year” speech must get Freddy teary eyed, as he thinks back to the Bums from Brooklyn.
Me?
Frankly, my dear, I’m sick and tired of it.
I really hope we are not going to give this team a coat of paint and new tires and roll it out again next season.
We just ain’t got it!
Need a new ride.

There has been one constant to this year for David and it has been his inability to hit a good fastball. None of his HR’s this year have come agst a hard thrower. I’m sure I was one of a few to watch last night’s game but Nolasco was throwing low 90’s fastballs by him as did Nunez in the 9th, although his was 95+.
My guess is his swing has either gotten too long or he has lost some bat speed, I hope its the former.
Maybe he needs to review some video and see what has changed in his swing.
Hubie makes a good point and Keith spoke about how David isn’t getting the barrel of the bat all the way through on top of that there must be some sort of mental aspect of it considering he knows he’s not crushing the pitches he should and he got hit in the head (although this was a problem before the concussion) and his team sucks this year so hopefully he’ll be fine for next year but watching him out there i was thinking to myself – should i be worried about wright for next year? I usually come up with no but you can’t help but wonder what is going on with him
