It is time that the Mets retool. That includes players, coaches and ALL front office personnel. It amazes me that Minaya will be retained and that Manuel will be back. What have they done to deserve this. I know there has been a ton of injuries but since some of the players have come back, we still have been AWFUL. That is a reflection on the manager and coaches.

I saw an interview with Mark Cuban today. Man I wish he was our owner. The question posed was when do you feel that you need to be involved in organizational decisions and when do you feel that you can stand on the sidelines and let other people run the team. His answer was when I can trust the GM and Coach. He said the hardest thing to do is hire a coach and GM because it is like a first date. No one picks their nose on a first date. Everyone looks good. However when he totally trusts those hires he fades into the background to take care of running the business side of the team.

Can we as Mets fans trust Minaya or Manuel without ANY intervention? NO!! That to me says it is time to start over. Why are we going to bring back certain members of the front office and coaching staff when we all know they will be on red alert and if the team starts poorly next season, it will be just like when we fired Randolph or when we fired both Valentine and Phillips. Just start new from the day after the season so we can implement a new plan ASAP.

I agree on Warthen. He should go. Might he have a BIT of the blame, along with our training and medical staff, for the health of Maine, Niese, Nieve, Santana and Putz?

A healthy Maine and Putz alone might have made the difference of maybe a dozen wins.

And Pelfrey is still young, but he performance this year might have been helped with stronger coaching.

I agree. Minaya and Manuel are going to pin their own ineffectiveness, inability to do a job and mismanagement of this team on the coaching staff.

And the fans aren't supposed to see through this sham?

Living down in florida you watch how a small market team works. The Marlins dont have the money of a big market team but what they have and what the Mets need are copetent baseball people running the organization. Larry Beinfest and his team always seem to find untapped talent from other organizations. Fred wilpon needs to find the right person to run this team and rebuild it from the top to the bottom. It seems to me that since Beltran struckout at the end of game 7 we have been in a downward spiral. As much as losing in 2007 and 2008 hurt this year was worse. 2009 was worse because we were never in it and it became pretty painful watching them night in and night out.

if the Mets intend to play a more fundamental-style of baseball, less-power and more speed, taking the extra base, etc., they need a smart, Xs-and-Os manager who can look ahead, think on his feet, and make adjustments...

Didn't you just describe Bobby Valentine?

I do not like to see coaches get the axe. Fire the manager, and let the new manager hire his own staff. The chef should be able to choose his own ingredients. If the soup sucks, get rid of the cook too.

I took my daughter to the dentist and when we walked in the lady behind the desk started to ask us questions about the METS and talk with us about the team and what we thought.
I miss the pressure and intensity I felt everyday in the Fall of 2006. That playoff feeling takes over your body all day long, I cant describe it. Never would have thought back then, that 2007, 2008, and 2009 would pass without that same feeling.

Same as everyone else. Pretty much blown away by the idea they'd even consider bringing Warthen back.

Hitting coaches are useless, so who cares? But Warthen is an absolute joke.

Also, the mets are 13th in baseball in OBP, hardly "among the best in baseball."

1986 POEPLE that is the last time we won anything!! Do whatever it takes to win in 2010!! The Yankees seem to win every year and they are the biggest FA buyers of all time. What are they doing that METS are not? We play in the same big city market as the Yankees and for us to lose year after year is a disgrace. WIN WIN WIN and WIN NOW!!! I am sick of being happy with second place and always looking ahead to the future, like I said since 1986, when does the future arrive? After 2006, 2007, 2008 and now 2009 plus a new stadium, its time to play baseball to win.
