Nick Evans has been getting instruction from Sandy Alomar Jr. on how to be a catcher, in an effort to ‘increase his versatility,’ writes Adam Rubin in a report for the Daily News.
…frankly, at this point, i am surprised evans isn’t also asking to work with the Pepsi Party Patrol, in an effort to step on the field during a game…
To read more about Jose Reyes’s hamstring, quotes from Francisco Rodriguez and notes from last night’s game, check out Rubin’s report, here.

Can he make shakes?
This is just another dumb move
you got to give him credit for trying.
I do give him credit, but while starts are given to Tatis at 1B instead of Evans, I question every decision this organization makes.
Seriously. I do not think ownership or management have an idea where this is going. Usher in the era or low cost, over the hill veterans to fill positions where the good teams have superstars.
I would approach 2010 as if Reyes weren’t even an option. If he makes it back, then great. Don”t handcuff the season expecting him back.
Trade Beltran, get a young CF in return, and use the 18 million to fill in some holes.
The Vandals have sacked Rome! The Dark Ages are upon us!
Wasn’t aimed at your comment just early in at louis and I’m using my iPhone. I agree with you 100%. Way too many questions with the players to go out and throw long term money around. Then layer in the FO (hopefully) bloodletting and it makes even less sense. Omar and the rest need to go. So does Jerry. Get good baseball men and see what you have next year. See if Pagan can pull off a full year. See if Murphy progresses. Ditto pelfrey. See if Maine, Perez, Niese come back. Let Reyes heal. See if FMart is the real deal. Get Davis ABs. Maybe try Murph or Evans at 2B – the Cards did it with Schuemaker so why not; what do you really have to lose?
Here, here, Mr Catch!
I agree and support your declaration!
Matty boy; the Pepsi Patrol comment was hilarious!
I needed a laugh; oh, I needed a laugh!
Agee’s Catch is right on the money re the Tatis situation. He must have girlie pix of Omar ready to be Flickr’d.
If Bel-tron’s knee is okay, though, don’t trade him. Don’t extend him, but don’t train him…
Matt: You are a machine with your rapid fire updates. We swear your getting updates up here before they come out of the source’s mouth… Well done. That said, we stole the head-banging animation you used last night for our article on Met cross-dressing and their subsequent new image today…
Love the idea, worth a shot. As a catcher, because of his power with the bat, Evans’ stock would soar.
The catch? Can he actually catch?
It’s certainly possible, as a right-handed first baseman he should be somewhat comfortable with handling throws and stuff in the dirt. As a baseball player, he should understand game calling. The questions are can he throw out runners, and can he handle the lateral movement required to deal with 90+ mph pitches from 60 feet.
Again, if the Mets feel he has no chance to be a 1B or a corner OF, what do you have to lose?
