by Michael Baron

The Mets (67-92) open their final series of the year tonight against the Astros (74-85) at Citi Field.

…the Mets would have to sweep the Astros to avoid finishing below .500 at home for the first time since 2004…

Angel Pagan will lead off, followed in order by Luis Castillo, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Jeff Francoeur, Fernando Tatis, Omir Santos, and Anderson Hernandez.

John Maine (6-6, 4.72 ERA) will start for the Mets.

Wandy Rodriguez (14-11, 2.97 ERA) will start for the Astros.

Again Tatis. Anyone want to wager Tatis is on the openning day roster if Omar and Jerry are back?

Sylow, I would not bet against you on that one.

also looks like the murphy haters will get their wish. Hard to believe he could be underconsideration for next year if tye keep playing tatis over him. I don’t care that it is a lefty, if anything, Murphy should be playing to get as much exposure to them as possible. Oh, and he also hits them reasonably well.

could this mean that manuel already knows that he will have a new 1B next year? and that he is playing tatis because he gives him a better chance to win the game now. I mean thats the only reason I can think of, or manuel is clueless.

How would he know that unless there was a deal already done. If that is via FA it is tampering. If via trade, then there would be a leak somewhere.

So if Murphy is known to be gone from the 1B scene next year, and you may be right, it would be a decent bet it that Crawford will start there against RHP out of ST; then Davis. And if they plan on a Tatis / (Crawford / Davis) platoon they are clueless-er.

Jerry loves Tatis for some reason, maybe he forget Evans was on the team….i sometimes do

The whole Evans thing is blown out of proportion. He’s a career .268 minor league hitter who hit .211 in AAA this season. He’s already had to see a sports psychologist because he couldn’t handle a demotion. You can’t depend on a guy like for 2010. Just being on the roster and traveling with the team should be an honor and a confidence builder for him. If he takes the field and boots a ball, the boos could set him back further in this fragile state.

As I posted a week or so ago, when Jerry didn’t pinch hit for Figueroa in a spot where we could win, he was conceding the game.

There are players on this team who have NOT given up wanting to post as many wins as possible, but when the Manager seems to be cashing it in, THAT depresses me.

Unless we are tanking in order to get a better position in the draft . . . Is that possible?

Is something wrong with Thole?

maine is looking good so far, but will he be in next year’s starting rotation?

I rather have maine in the SR than ollie..

evans where you been??? nice to see you!!

OMG is that the elusive Mr. N. Evans?!?!?!?!?!?!? I openly weep with delight. Jerry has heard our cries of injustice and we are again one with the ether. Let the wine flow like water as we dance in the streets!!
