Sandy Alomar Sr. and First Base Coach Luis Alicea will not be returning for the 2010 season.
According to a team press release, Razor Shines and Catching Instructor Sandy Alomar Jr. will be part of the team’s coaching staff in 2010 in yet to be determined roles.
The release also reads, “Howard Johnson, Dan Warthen and Bullpen Coach Randy Niemann will return to Jerry Manuel’s staff in the same positions next year.”
…Hmmm, Jerry Manuel’s staff, which must mean he too is returning in 2010… also, i bet razor moves to bench coach, in place of alomar… razor and jerry are tight, and razor’s positives, i.e. his attittude, positivity and encouragement, are probably better served sitting by jerry’s side…

Names that will come up (after their teams have declined their options) will be Jermaine Dye and Magglio Ordonez. Both have something to prove and will be cheaper alternatives than Bay or Holliday.
I still can see Ivan Rodgriguez for a year. Sure i like Thole, but I’d like to see him get 200 ABs in AAA before he makes the show for good.
Ordonez already had his option picked up by having a certain amount of ABs, so hes returning to the tigers, and i really hope omar doesnt cheap out and go after dye when bay and holliday are sitting out there…team needs to get younger…holliday is 29…dye is like 37 or something
and on top of that, at this point in his career dye isnt half the player he was and its a pretty big drop off compared to holliday and bay
I don’t think Bay and Holliday will be sitting out there for long with the Red Sox and Yankees both needing LFers (along with the Mutts).
Something tells me Holliday will remain with the Cardinals.
that’s the buzz here in St Louis. I’d put it at 90%. Holliday loves it here, he grew up only 4 hrs away (in Midwest terms that is next door) in old school Cards territory, the Cards love him, the city loves him, more importantly Puljols loves him and appears to be willing to walk if the Cards make no attempt and the acarss announced they would make a long term serious money offer.
The only counterargument to that (and it is admittedly a weak one) is that Holliday’s agent is $cott Bora$ and he knows that Red Sox, Yankees and Mets are all in need of a LFer. He must be salivating at the prospects of playing each team off one another – with the Cards to boot.
Now, Holliday seems to be less of a head case than A-Rod, so I’m sure he could just say to Bora$ that he wants to stay with the Cards and that’s that. But I’m sure Bora$ will use the other 3 big money teams to drive up the price – perhaps to the point were the Cards balk.
At any rate, I’m bracing myself for Mets FO to start cranking up the Pagan Hype Machine (PHM) around Nov 2nd…maybe even sooner.

Exactly right ItalPiazza. Of all the coaches, Sandy Alomar least deserved to be fired while Warthen should have been let go at 4pm yesterday. This is absolutely ridiculous.
One day into the offseason and already the Mets front office has screwed up. Bravo boys, Bravo.
Alomar deserved to be dismissed simply because he is an Alomar…….
No Alomar’s should come within 100 feet of Citi Field and we had 2 this past year.
Uuuuggghhh…offseason off to a rough start already. Like the saying goes, “You only get one chance to make a first impression” and my first impression of this offseason is that it is going to be more of the same.
The one ray of light is perhaps Ken Oberkfell gets promoted to bench coach, waiting to take over once Jerry gets canned in June.
Simply astounding. Already a bad start, and will probably only get worse.
They had the opportunity to change to atmosphere and get the bad taste out this off-season and they did nothing. What did Warthen do to keep his job?!?!?!? Razor Shines is a HORRIBLE third base coach. Friggin’ amazing.
I guess they didn’t say Shines would be the 3rd base coach, but still…..
This is money driven plain and simple. Look for an off-season on the cheap. No major signings, no overslot, no trades that will increase salary. Look for a lot of injury excuses. Almost like a holding pattern for new ownership.

In some sick way, I kind of want the Marlins to hire Bobby V and for the Marlins to win the NL East next year, just to spite the Wilpons.
Un-****ing-believable. Not 24 hours after finally being relieved of the stress of that awful season, we kick off the offseason by infuriating the fans.
How…….HOW can this team continue to bring back the regime that engineered the biggest collapse in baseball history. The house should have been cleared 2 years ago, and here it is, given YET ANOTHER oppurtunity to waste the time we have with 2 of the best young players in the game, and the prime of the premiere center fielder in baseball.
The desire to stop rooting for this team has never been stronger than it is at this moment.
Thank god they got rid of luis alicea….there’s no way this team could’ve won a championship with HIM at 1b coach. /sarcasm>

Wow, a complete joke, they will have to cut prices 50% to sell tickets, Dan Warthen kept his job, that is unbelieavable and o major coaching changes and Razor Shines kept his job, Hojo I could see though I love him and is one of my favorite Mets he is jutsified in being let go too, but I am glad he stayed. But this is simply unreal, I am befuddled to say the least. Unreal. So same coaches and probably about the same team, we will be lucky to win 80- games next year and Citi Field will be empty. Good lukc ticket office, you guys will have the toughest job around. I can’t wait to get my call from minayi begging me to keep my tickets so I cna laugh in his face.
