well put.

I don’t see the need for another marginal player when they already have Murphy, Evans, and Carter (maybe) who can provide at least as much production at that position. And potentially Ike Davis…

Off a down year Jacobs should be rather cheap, yet the Royals have no need for him. What does that tell you?

I would agree. Jacobs is not the answer at 1B. I cannot believe anyone would even thing that way. How would replacing Murph with a guy he outhit improve our offense.

I agree that there is no reason to bring in Jacobs. But if he’s Cheap, he’d be a nice candidate for a Bench Spot, Power hitter off the bench. But overall he’s a 250 hitter with good pop when he actually makes contact.

Again No Need to go get him.

I can’t believe anyone would suggest bringing back Mike Jacobs, although it is consistent with the Mets fans’ obsession with every player they let go.

Players like Jacobs hit 32 homers and 92 RBI in the regular season, and I gurantee in a playoff series he’d his .150 with 0 and 2….I’m always amazed how people can’t tell the difference between good hitter and marginal hitters who take advantage of the dregs that are on bad team pitching staffs over the course of a regular season.

The Core:
lowest value: Reyes – Second time in career that legs have seriously malfunctioned
mid-value: Beltran – He came back, knees a question, on the plus side of 30, have we seen his best?
high value: Wright – One season could just be a fluke. Still young enough to be worth the gamble.

The only one I would trade is Beltran. I think you can get a young speedster to patrol CF and salary relief to fill in other holes.

I am tired of hearing this everytime I turn on the FAN. Francesa blathers on endlessly last year about breaking up to “cawr”. Now this year he says you can’t break up the “cawr” because you’ll get 50 cents to the “dollaaaah” for any one of Wright, Reyes, or Beltran because they are coming off either a down year or a injury-plagued season. It’s just hard to listen to a guy like him talk about this team when he doesn’t even watch ten games a year.

I know we are guilty of projecting what our prospects might become. We tend to hang on to them too long and end up trading low, or after a premature cup of coffee in which they are disposed
On the other hand, i think we are also guilty of bringing in players who have shown signs of age and decline. Luis Castillo is the first person to come to mind as well as Moises Alou and Gary Sheffield. They just aren’t what they used to be.
