This seems like a typical bone head deal the METS would make. I say NO WAY !!!

If on the cheap, and for a 4th OF/PH role sure. Otherwise, no.

I personally would rather go after Abreu than Matsui. I am also in favor (assuming that the extreme direction of blowing the team up is not taken) of going for several lower level acquisitions plus 1 major one. Getting Abreu, Laroche, Harden, and Lackey or Halladay would do the team better than Lackey and Holliday, There seems to be enoug tier 2 options that are close enough in production to the top guys (Holliday is grossly overrated). I definitely would like to take a flier on a Harden or Sheets, as I find John Maine to be useless, and worse of an option than Perez in the rotation. In reality, I really would like to only see Santana and Niese as fixtures, with a major #2, Perez is he can find his stuff again, and a Harden filling up the rest of the rotation. I would not shed a tear if Pelfrey, Maine, and the rest of the Bad News Bears disappeared from the major league roster. This whole thing is a delicated balance, however. I do not want them to be cheap and lose out on talent, but they need to find enough lower priced FAs that still can produce in order to fill numerous holes.

Michael, Michael, Michael nothing I repeat NOTHING should ever, ever, ever, make Matsui interesting. The fact that you wrote that almost made me spit out my morning coffee. The guy is old and has the current knees of Joe Namath. Lets file this under "Scenarios we will never talk about for the Mets again". Thanks!

This was a great post - it allows us to discuss the absolute worst idea on the planet for the 2010 Mets and then work our way up!

Hey if any of you guys are interested check out the USA World Cup team highlights on youtube paying particular attention to the games vs Germany and the Netherlands and you can see that maybe the Mets future isn't so dim. Ike Davis has some pop folks and when he played he hit. His homers weren't of the cheapy variety they were bombs. I can't wait to see him at first in a year or 2 and his development there could make it hard for the Mets to go after anyone long term at first. Just throwing that out there.

We cab kiss Fielder good bye:

<i>"The Milwaukee Brewers are willing to do most anything this winter to improve their pitching staff.

Anything except trade Prince Fielder or Ryan Braun.

Despite continuing speculation - mostly from national pundits - that the Brewers will have to trade one of their two sluggers to acquire a quality starting pitcher, general manager Doug Melvin made it clear Wednesday he isn't entertaining such thoughts.

At his annual season-review news conference at Miller Park, Melvin said he might have to sacrifice some offense to improve his woeful starting pitching. Melvin then was asked if that meant sacrificing either Fielder or Braun.

"That would be a tough one," said Melvin. "I didn't mean it that way. I don't see that happening."</i>

I was going to put that in but there is a lot of buzz going around that he'll be gone after this year b/c posada will need time at DH, and so will Damon so i'm not sure they potentially could but i hear it a lot that they won't. On the broadcast last night Ron talked about how he'd probably only be able to play the OF 2 or 3 times a week. He's better suited to an AL team.

He won't be able to be depended on as a full timer, it's pretty silly. We need to get younger and not older with bad knees. We need a proven commodity in LF, this is a problem with this franchise - signing older players to deals when they are done and yes Damon is playing LF on the yankees, i think that's enough said on the matter
