Read: Dodgers and Mets at Odds over Reyes

In a must read report in the New York Times, David Waldstein and Michael Schmidt say that there is a “rift” between the Mets and Dodgers over Jose Reyes and his torn hamstring tendon.

During last Monday’s press conference at Citi Field, Jeff Wilpon said that the Dodgers team doctors incorrectly diagnosed his leg injury, calling it a calf injury when, in fact, the Dodgers say their team doctor, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, correctly diagnosed Reyes as having a partially torn hamstring accessory tendon.

Both ElAttrache and the Mets were in agreement that Reyes could attempt to play with the injury in hopes that the tear did not worsen.

…it boggles my mind that the Mets would continue to claim it was nothing more than a calf strain, but i guess this incident is one of many that wilpon said he would fix as part of the team’s ‘better communication’ of team injuries in 2010…

Last week, Adam Rubin of the Daily News sat down with Kiners Korner for a Q&A, and Rubin said, “Almost uniformly [players] said that they were pushed to play though injuries that would have landed them on the DL had they been with other organizations.”

…i just don’t know how this could go on with one of the cornerstone’s of the franchise in reyes, let alone anyone for that matter… if a physician diagnoses him with a torn hamstring tendon, why would the team attempt to mask the problem and have him run on it, not allowing it time to heal, let alone not operate at that point to get him back sooner and not further jeopardize his season and potentially his career… then again, the team still has not announced the date for surgery…

For more on this and the chronology of Reyes’ leg injury, check out the New York Times article.

Cross them off the list of potential trade partners

I was horrified hearing Jeff call out the Dodgers’ docs, and even more horrified reading this article.

A disgraceful performance by the Mets that may just get them barred from using any team’s doctors. I cannot believe that the owner of a team, or even the senior management, would EVER be so unprofessional to publicly question the competency of another doctor.

Again, shame.

What else is new.

No wonder there’s no accountability within this organization when the COO and son of the owner making inflammatory statements like that.

there really is no reason (well, other than Omar isn’t aloud to!) for someone in Jeffy’s position to be talking to the media about this stuff. Pretty much they shouldn’t be seen, much less heard.

There is also a reason a lot of family businesses get run into the ground when the 2nd generation inherits from the founder.

So now we’re sharing a history AND team doctors?!

More reason to root for LA to beat the Phillies!

who cares about all of this nonsense.. its over.. i just want to win… none of this matters if you win .. spend the money on a good team play hard and win .. im sick of the heartbreak

the freakin phillies won BOTH games in colorado in the ninth…i dont like them but gotta give them kudos…as long as the yanks lose somewhere along the line (preferably vs the angels) pleeeez….

The bigger question is where is John Ricco in all this? He would have been most likely the one on the road managing the scenario and also pushing Reyes to play.

THE PHILLIES WON !! I hope the Dodgers can take care of them? I hate them worse than the Yankees. If they face off in the WS I would be forced, against my will, to wear a Yankee hat :{

metskat October 13, 2009 at 9:17 am

at least if the phils beat the yanks i dont have to deal with the ny media and the crankee fans all around me…and it does make our division look good…i could NEVA root for the crankees…i admit it is pathological but it is what it is…lets go angels vs dodgers….

jimyager October 13, 2009 at 10:16 am

It would be worse if the PHILLIES win back to back. The last NL team to do that was the BIG RED MACHINE and they had “real” superstars, like Bench, Rose and Seaver. I could NEVER root for the Phillies to win and would rather see the Yankees than them. It might motivate the METS to do what needs to be done so they can get there piece of the pie. If the DODGERS knock off the Phillies it wont matter :} LETS GO DODGERS!!!

Yeah I agree, can’t let the phillies repeat, then we have their obnoxious fans being even more obnoxious, i am not sure if they dodgers can beat them but they did beat the cardinals, the stupid rockies were one out away from winning that game, it drives me nuts, a lot of closer meltdown these playoffs.

Wilpon: “Jeff Wilpon said that the Dodgers team doctors incorrectly diagnosed his leg injury, calling it a calf injury…”

Baron: “…it boggles my mind that the Mets would continue to claim it was nothing more than a calf strain…”

Someone’s reading comprehension is a little off the mark. He’s blaming the Dodgers and not the Mets for the calf strain misdiagnosis. Clearly…

The team trainers need to go. Every time a player has a good hit or something good in the field, a trainer is the first to high five him. I feel like I am watching the movie Any Given Sunday
