Buzz: Bay Will Consider Anyone
While Jason Bay was cleaning out his locker at Fenway Park on Monday, he spoke with reporters again about free agency, and that he will test the open market.
According to Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe, Bay said:
“…I think ultimately it just boils down to I’ve gotten to this point. I’d do myself a disservice if I didn’t look around…At some point, it is about the money…”
…if it’s about the money, and usually is always about that, then its easy to figure that Boston will be in the mix, as will both New York teams…the question becomes whether or not the Mets can outbid those teams as well as whether or not Bay would be willing to not play in a hitter-friendly ballpark 81 games per season…
…as i said on Monday, he has proven that he can play in a big market, but he is 32 and speaking specifically about the Mets, they need to evaluate how well he fits into what they are trying to build for the long term and whether or not a player like Matt Holliday would be a better fit…
Both Bay and the Red Sox had twice previously engaged in contract discussions, and while Red Sox GM Theo Epstein classifies the negotiations as “unusual”, he appears motivate to try and re-sign Bay.
