I agree. There is no way the Mets should be considering trading Beltran (unless they get “blown away” by an offer). It isn’t only that he has done right by us…how do you replace him?
You can’t upgrade defensively. And you can’t upgrade (at the position) offensively. Anything you get in trading Beltran will mean that you have just *signigificantly* weakened your team at CF.
The only way to do this would be if you are getting a good replacement in CF and some upgrades at at least 2 other positions (like pitcher and LF).

If you want a good laugh you can go over to mlbtraderumors.com and read the comments on the post they have about Marty’s mailbag. The trade suggestions involving the Mets and Braves are pretty funny. Lowe for Beltran straight up was one of them.

absolutely, and the prospect of letting an aging Type A free agent leave for compensation instead of bringing them in for a change will be a appealing situation when his deal comes to an end.

If its about money then I would rather have Beltran and Pagan over Holliday and Pagan. Overlapping the two all star OF’s for two years is a very nice transition, instead of replacing needs a year after they come up.

If its about talent then I don’t see how they can get fair value in return. If the team somehow stinks it up again next year I could see thinking about moving him at the trade deadline, but its still probably not a good idea.

DO NOT TRADE BELTRAN. He’s my favorite Met and by far our best all around player and he’s a class act that kids can look up to. Can’t say that about too many players these days.
