I’m sure Santana could do it. Then again, Mota used to take infield practice during BP.

Also, Babe Ruth was sold because even he thought it was too much of a strain to pitch _and_ play a position, and wanted to hit over pitch.

I keep forgetting that Putz could have some trade value as a closer, granted, not anywhere near as much as we thought when that trade went down

Diamonds in the rough? Really? Nieve pitched 36 innings. That’s a stop-gap pitcher who got lucky enough to get a few outs… and as I recall he got lit up right before he went on the DL.

You want a diamond in the rough? Albert Pujols is a diamond in the rough. Mike Piazza is a diamond in the rough. Fernando Nieve may never pitch for the Mets again… that’s not a diamond in the rough.
