I’m Reading: Curses, Chutzpah, Pedro, Uniform Unanimity
By Michael Baron - Oct 17, 2009 8:42 am

The Optimistic Mets Fan wonders if WFAN has cursed the Mets.

Joe from Mets Today says that nobody has the chutzpah to make a decision about the future of Bobby Parnell.

Adam, the Brooklyn Met Fan, is proud of the performance given by Pedro Martinez in Game 2 of the NLCS.

Finally, Shannon from Mets Police notices that every Yankee fan is dressed the same at games, but in Flushing there is a mish mosh of different uniforms that fans wear.

Yes, Pedro pitched a good game and deserves credit for that. But he hadn’t pitched in two weeks. I disagree with Adam at the Brooklyn Met Fan that Pedro had enough left in the tank to pitch nearly a full season. If the Mets had signed him earlier in the year, he would have been on the DL by August.

The Phillies signed him at the right time. It was right before roster expansions so they didn’t need to use him all the time — and didn’t. That way, Pedro could coast through the remainder of the season and be super rested for the playoffs. That’s the only way he can pitch now — and the Mets couldn’t afford a pitcher like that on their roster earlier in the year.

That’s right on the money…he’s pitched once since September 19th and went 4 innings.

The other thing I don’t agree with is this unconditional love for Pedro from Mets fans. He was paid a ton of money for very little in return and when the Mets needed him most (2006 postseason) he was a non-factor.

I hate to say it but Glavine contributed much more to this franchise than Pedro ever did.

I agree with you on Glavine. It’s unfortunate that he went out the way he did because most Mets fans will never forgive him for that. However, unlike Pedro, he was a major factor in the 2006 postseason and stepped up when he was needed.

Pedro did bring the Mets credibility and had a great 18 months (he was great until that game in Boston at the end of June 2006). But now that he’s with the Phillies, I hope he gets shelled.

I also agree with the Glavine comment. He started very slowly as a Met but pitched quite well in 06 and 07 (excepting of course the last game).

One main reason the YAnkke fans are dressed alike and the Mets fans are dressed as a “mish mosh” is because of the uni’s each team wears. How many variety’s do the Mets wear?? The Yankees have two basic uniforms and that’s it. If the Mets reduced the number of variations, there would be lest variations to buy!

It’s still boring. Yankees fans were all dressed alike because they all had jackets on and were bundled up. winter jackets aren’t usually colorful.

Wearing the white jerseys, or white pinstriped, at Citi Field wouldn’t look nice, it’d just look white.
