Angels would be nice, yes..but honestly, I hope the Yankees blow the Phillies out. The Phillies could beat the Angels, while it’ll be a lot more difficult against the Yanks.
I know it’s weird, and maybe it’s b/c I live in Boston and have to deal with Sawx fans non-stop. But I’d rather root for my city, and home state, than for a hated rival who, I hope to god, does not repeat.
still a pretty good effort over at Fear in Flushing.
Agree 100%. I’d rather see NY win, even if it isn’t the Mets, instead of that hole of a city called Philly. You think Philly fans are obnoxious now, with 1 professional title in the last 2 decades (for any sport…) can you imagine if they repeat?
Yeah, I picked my poison, and put me down as prefering the Yanks too. Not that I would root for them, I’d just prefer that they win over the Phillies.
In addition to only making the ignorant Philly fans even MORE obnoxious at CitiField next year (and we all have to wear blue everytime the Phillies are there to counteract their stupid red shirts), if the Phillies win the WS it will be the first time an NL team went back-to-back since the Big Red Machine of 75-76. I’d rather hear shouts of “27 Rings!”
exactly either yankee fans yell 26 rings at us or 27 whats the difference.
Let’s face it, a Yankees-Phillies WS is the perfect cherry to place atop the sh*t sundae that was the 2009 Mets season.
I’ll be rooting for the yankees too, 26 world series, 27 whats the difference. I couldnt stand watching any of those dbag philly fans celebrating again.
Your typical Philadelphia sports fan couild force me to root for the Yanks to win anything for the first and only time in my life. What a bunch of pricks.
Why do we have to root at all? Initially my thought was to root for the Yankees over the Phillies, but if I’m being honest with myself I’d wish nothing good for either team. I don’t need to “root” for either team in order to watch the games, which I will with a detached and casual interest. It’s feels sort of like being a west coast fan I guess.
I don’t mean cheer “rah rah” for them. But I rather see them win than the Phils. I could rationalize that the Yanks had to go on a quarter of billion dollar spending spree last offseason in order to buy a championship.
Yeah, I totally get what you’re saying. It’s a tough call. If just one of those teams could be substituted for another (c;mon Angels!) it would make a world of difference to me, but as it stands there is just too much for me to dislike about both teams.
Yes, but let’s be honest. The Phillies would blow the Angels out of the water. The Yanks would be a lot tougher.
I’m rooting for an earthquake.
this made me laugh
Congrats to the Phillies for their 2nd straight trip to the WS — something even the Yankees haven’t done in the last 30 years without either PEDs, a humongous payroll advantage or both. That’s why I can respect the Phillies and give them due credit but I give none to the Yankees who wouldn’t be on the verge of a WS if not for spending a grotesque $80-90 million more than their nearest competitor in the AL.
The Phillies are good for baseball in a way the Yankees are not. They succeed on smart management and wise moves whereas the Yankees succeed by blowing their competitors out of the water with a huge payroll.
I will hold my nose and pull for the Phillies to win the WS if they play the Yankees. But I’m still hoping that the Angels pull off a miracle.
Regardless, the Phillies deserve credit for the way they built their club. Omar, should be paying attention. Gillick and Amaro have been way better as GMs. Omar needs to stop handing out jobs and contracts based on friendship and sentiment.
I’m probably too late on this thread, but I feel the opposite. I think the arguments about the Yanks payroll being good or bad for the game have been refuted enough by so many others that the argument is no longer valid. They operate within the system, and they take advantage of the areas where they have the most power. The system is broken, the Yankees, wisely, take advantage. Their championships have included plenty of homegrown talent and good decision making.
I agree that the Philis deserve respect for how they’ve built and developed their team, but I will root with gusto for whoever plays against them, even if it’s the Yankees. In fact, I’m finding it easier to root for my town and, I think one would have to admit, a great team, to wipe the floor with them.
def yankees, the phillies are our bitter rvial, i hate their players, i hate their fans, i hate them with a firey passion, i hope that the yankees beat the cr*p out of them, sweep them in four games, win in philly and have the fans and the players crying
idk if it really should count for anything but it’s new york v. philadelphia and i’d rather see new york win, even if it is the yankees
Living in Philly it’s easy for me! If the Phillie’s win, I’ll be inundated with red and white for the next 5 months (including wear you favorite Phillies shirt to work – I really should be able to file a hostile work environment complaint!). Go Yankees – living through this once last year was bad enough!
