I'm probably too late on this thread, but I feel the opposite. I think the arguments about the Yanks payroll being good or bad for the game have been refuted enough by so many others that the argument is no longer valid. They operate within the system, and they take advantage of the areas where they have the most power. The system is broken, the Yankees, wisely, take advantage. Their championships have included plenty of homegrown talent and good decision making.

I agree that the Philis deserve respect for how they've built and developed their team, but I will root with gusto for whoever plays against them, even if it's the Yankees. In fact, I'm finding it easier to root for my town and, I think one would have to admit, a great team, to wipe the floor with them.

Living in Philly it's easy for me! If the Phillie's win, I'll be inundated with red and white for the next 5 months (including wear you favorite Phillies shirt to work - I really should be able to file a hostile work environment complaint!). Go Yankees - living through this once last year was bad enough!

Let's face it, a Yankees-Phillies WS is the perfect cherry to place atop the sh*t sundae that was the 2009 Mets season.

idk if it really should count for anything but it's new york v. philadelphia and i'd rather see new york win, even if it is the yankees

Congrats to the Phillies for their 2nd straight trip to the WS -- something even the Yankees haven't done in the last 30 years without either PEDs, a humongous payroll advantage or both. That's why I can respect the Phillies and give them due credit but I give none to the Yankees who wouldn't be on the verge of a WS if not for spending a grotesque $80-90 million more than their nearest competitor in the AL.

The Phillies are good for baseball in a way the Yankees are not. They succeed on smart management and wise moves whereas the Yankees succeed by blowing their competitors out of the water with a huge payroll.

I will hold my nose and pull for the Phillies to win the WS if they play the Yankees. But I'm still hoping that the Angels pull off a miracle.

Regardless, the Phillies deserve credit for the way they built their club. Omar, should be paying attention. Gillick and Amaro have been way better as GMs. Omar needs to stop handing out jobs and contracts based on friendship and sentiment.

Yeah, I picked my poison, and put me down as prefering the Yanks too. Not that I would root for them, I'd just prefer that they win over the Phillies.

In addition to only making the ignorant Philly fans even MORE obnoxious at CitiField next year (and we all have to wear blue everytime the Phillies are there to counteract their stupid red shirts), if the Phillies win the WS it will be the first time an NL team went back-to-back since the Big Red Machine of 75-76. I'd rather hear shouts of "27 Rings!"

Yes, but let's be honest. The Phillies would blow the Angels out of the water. The Yanks would be a lot tougher.
