By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 4, 2009 1:35 pm

According to Matt Clemente, of the Bleacher Report, Omar Minaya should be talking with the Padres and Rockies.

Ed Ryan of Mets Fever looks at the market for free-agent OF Matt Holliday.

In a post to his blog, Mack’s Mets, Mack takes a closer look at Mets LHP Adam Bostick, who was 3-3 with 3.05 ERA in 39 games this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

Lastly, Coop, from My Summer Family, details her best-case scenario for the final game of the World Series.

if the pads are trading gonzalez, the mets should be interested. I could see them trading him because they have Kyle Blanks to put at 1b, his natural position. then we can sign holliday and our lineup would be one of the best in the league.

    reyes
    castillo
    holliday
    A-GON
    wright
    beltran
    francouer
    thole

and you still have money to get pitching..

    • brye65 says:

Adding Gonzalez & Holliday approx: $ 28 million and the Mets have roughly $16 million coming off last years salaries and still have room to spend on pitching. You must have the Mets spending close to $170 million in 2010

      • MetsFan06 says:

I don’t know what the MEts will give up for him since we have a potential 1st basemen coming up in two years. I understand that we will be better with him, but it’s not orth trading our prospects for him for 2 years.

  2. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

Its amazing, it finally appears that we have some prospects in the minors that are ready to develop and take that crucial next step in development toward becoming legit prospects and everyone wants to unload them for adrian gonzalez, or roy halladay, or some catcher or whomever when we could just SIGN matt holliday, SIGN john lackey, SIGN rich harden, SIGN a catcher and keep all our prospects so IF we need that missing piece in July we can actually go out and get it.

    • BringBackDaveTelgheder says:

To be fair, signing that many Type A’s still kills our draft as only our first rounder is protected.

It’s hard to get on people suggesting that we trade prospects, when future high end prospects would go instead.

Personally, I would go heavy on the Free Agents, and trade chips that have value but the organization may not entirely believe in.

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

thats true about the draft picks but im not saying sign all of those guys. For example I would be fine with say signing holliday and then maybe trading for a pitcher, OR signing lackey and trading for gonzalez. But there are people who want to trade for gonzo, then trade for crawford and then trade for ryan garko. I mean how do we expect to build a farm if every offseason we are shipping off 5-10 of our mid-top minor leaguers.

        • DominicanBoy08 says:

I agree with that, we can make one major trade, but no more than one, otherwise we will have no farm left.

    • DominicanBoy08 says:

I understand what you are saying…but gonzalez isnt an ordinary player, he is a SUPERSTAR player entering his prime. we wouldnt have to worry about 1B in many years.

ALSO we arent trading all of our propects to get him, for example we wouldnt include f-mart, davis, holt, mejia, niese and flores in a deal for him.

      • Bench5urvivor says:

so the Padres are giving him away?

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

I agree he’s a superstar and thus would cost our best and brightest (which we dont have much of to begin with). How exactly do you expect to get Gonzalez WITHOUT giving up any of those guys you named? I love Matt Cerrone and Ted Berg but I dont think the Pads will take them for Gonzo.

        • DominicanBoy08 says:

I didnt say they cant take any of those guys, they can take 4, but not all of them.

          • mark4212 says:

Those are all of our top prospects, in respect to helping the big league ball club.

All the others including flores are in Low A ball. So yeah your trading away every TOP prospect in the Mets farm system.

      • DominicanBoy08 says:

I meant to say all of those guys in the same deal for A-GON.

    • Peter says:

      I know . . . it’s Amazing . . . and not in a good way.

  3. Zanderssports says:

Bostick? wow, I thought he wouldn’t ever do anything….

  4. Dimebag69 says:

Has anyone looked at Bostick’s 11.25 ERA in 10 Winter League games, in which batters are hitting an Ichiro! like .355 off of him.

    Don’t get too excited.

    • mark4212 says:

Bostick has a chance to be a LOOGY. His numbers against lefties are Pedro Feliciano Like. he can’t seem to get righties out though.

  5. JohantheMan says:

If I was trading for Gonzo, I would trade Davis, not F-mart. Davis has high value now and Gonzo is a stud 1B. If we get him we don’t need to worry about 1B and with Davis doing so well value is high. I would let the Padres have Davis and Neise or Flores and then maybe one of the lower guys. I wouldn’t trade both F-mart and Davis and I don’t want to trade meija right now

  6. MetsFan06 says:

I think that we should worry about getting Holliday and LAckey first. Then we should get a catcher such as Olivo Or Barajas or Molina. Then we should get MArquis. I’m not saying Bedard, Sheets or HArden because they are injury prone and Omar said we’re gonna stay away from them. The we can Upgrade the bullpen and the bench. Then I’d ont like this idea anymore becaue Ike Davis will be the Mets first basemen in like 2 years so why spend all your great players on some superstar while wasting your farm. The MEts will be better with AGON but the farm will stink.

  7. fortleemets says:

I really hope the Mets players are watching this world series. Maybe a Yankee dominated city will make the Mets realize that they can’t function any like they’re a second rate team.

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

If the Mets want to stop being a second rate team it has to start up top. This offseason would be a good time for that.

    • ericloz says:

I was just thinging the same thing as my sister texted me…She’s a Yankee fan…Good for her…

Congrats Yankees…I’m glad Victorino made the last out, it’s fitting…

      LGM 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. It’s so awesome to see the looks on the Phillies’ faces right now…suck on it, Philly!

I’m so excited for the offseason, now!

  9. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

Good I can finally stop rooting for the yankees. Ugh how many more years do i have to watch someone else jump around and celebrate a title.

  10. JohantheMan says:

Did you hear Rosenthal to Posada , after all these years since 2000 of waiting for another championship, blah blah blah blah

    i feel sick

    let’s see some hotstove!

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

It was a long time coming, I feel bad for all those yankees fans they had to wait less than a decade for another title. Poor guys.

  11. kd bart says:

Thank God that’s over. It was like watching the war on the Eastern Front. At least the Phils didn’t win two in a row. That would’ve been unbearable.

  12. racemccloud says:

I rooted for the Yankees in this WS, and immediately (as in INSTANTANEOUSLY) started loathing them with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns the second, the SECOND, they started celebrating.

I live in Bensonhurst. It’s 1am and I have to listen to a bunch of Bay Ridge d-bags driving up and down 6th Ave. honking their horns.

My wife is from a family of Yankee fans. At midnight the phone rang. It was her father in Florida, calling to gloat. Did he really think I’d answer the phone?

A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law uttered the words, “Yankee fans can be bad, but Mets fans are just the worst.” Has she ever met a Yankee fan? I mean, I know she IS one, but still…

I actually do hate the Phillies more. Nice to see those tools lose. But Eff the Yankees. I hate them and their fans. Life sucks. Bring on the hot stove.

  13. racemccloud says:

Is there a video feed somewhere that is just the loser Phillies in their locker room and ignores the Yankee celebration completely? I’d watch that.

  14. Tommy2cat says:

    I’m glad the Fillies lost.

Brett Meyers is probably kicking the living $hit out of Cole Hamels by now.

Shane Victorino’s finger will never be the same.

Jimmy Rollins has gazes in the mirror and realizes he’s only 5′5″, and that he looks like Prince from behind. At least Chase Utley thinks so.

Ryan Howard’s cold htting zones have been exposed as much as the Giant’s secondary.

    Charlie Manuel cried.

Kyle Kendrick really does get traded to Japanese team where Shinjo plays centerfield.

Ooooh, baseball gods, I summon ye….

    • dave27 says:

For everything to play out the way it did for the 2009 Yankees proves beyind shadow of a doubt…there are no baseball gods.

  15. Tommy2cat says:

    Man, we need pitching.

    And hitting.

  16. Tommy2cat says:

Figueroa would’ve pitched better than Pedro tonight, in case anyone wondered.

What concerns me most is that so much of what we need to do is so much up in the air.

    Question marks…

John NIese – less concerned about his ability than his leg. He came on like fire before his promotion to the majors. He bears watching.

Pat Misch – Really don’t know what to make of him. Is he the second coming of John Tudor or another Glendon Rusch? I like his delivery, very simple. He locates well. Can keep opponents off balance for an entire game. Can also get his face kicked in. Should improve with experience. To what extent remains uncertain.

Fernando Nieve – I remember him during his days with the Astros. Nasty stuff that had not yet been harnessed. Now, he appears to be the pitcher many scouts projected him to be – mid 90’s with movement. He could be dynamite out of the bullpen, if he doesn’t crack the rotation.

Mike Pelfrey – I definitely haven’t given up on him, as long as he doesn’t give up on himself. Protypical sophomore slump. He needs to slow down and put a little more thought behind each pitch without thinking. A Zen Riddle. He must throw first pitch strikes and stay ahead of hitters. Then, he can do what he wants with them. He needs experience.

John Maine – If he’s healthy, we’re in much better shape. Maine needs to develop more downward movement on his slider to induce more groundballs. It will also contrast well with his high heat and help him put hitters away.

Figgy & Redding – both of these dudes performed well once they were inserted into the rotation. I’m not campaigning for either, but I am also not rejecting them outright.

Parnell, Bostick, Kunz – These responsibility for their development rests squarely on the shoulders of the organization. Somebody has to crack the whip and bring these fine arms to the next level.

  17. reillys5 says:

    everyone take a deep breath….

    its over

2009 is in the books … finally

    hot stove time

  18. dave27 says:

And so ends what was, without a doubt, the most utterly excrutiating, painful, humiliating and all-around nightmarish season any Mets fan could have concocted in the deepest, darkest recesses of his or her soul.

From the unveiling of the CitiField patches, which were our first inkling that this organization was about to F up the opportunity in front of it, to the final out tonight, I don’t think any of us can truly appreciate how completely awful this year has been until we have time to reflect on it. In Mets history only two years are remotely comparable…1977, which saw the trade of Seaver and a return to prominence for the Yankees, and 1996, which saw the franchise’s blueprint for success go up in smoke while the Yankees…well you know.

I don’t see what satisfaction any Mets fan gets from seeing the same players who won the WS last lear lose it. Frankly watching this Yankees team, in their billion-dollar stadium with their highest-paid player at every spot on the diamond, with their steroid cheat 3B and their cheat SP and traitor LF celbrating made me sicker than anything I’ve ever seen on a sports field. This is a dark day for baseball, and sports.

The only good news is that we can now turn the page on 2009. I don’t see any conceiveable way for 2010 to be worse.

Or do we take solace in the fact that the Yankees will probably decline taking potshots at the Mets during their parade?

  19. MisterMet74 says:

I was all Phillies this series because I knew how much the Skankee fans would gloat. But it started to get nice to see the same 2008 Champion Phillies squirm tonight. Then at the end of the game, my worst fear came true. Seeing the Skanee d-bag players and fans celebrating in that new stadium fulfilling the Derek Jeter prophesy, “come across the street with us to make new memories of championships” just took the cake.
My Facebook account exploded with all of the Skankee arrogance that actually made me want the Phillies to win. The comments are unbearable. “Girardi will have to wear number 28 next year for their next World Series”. Now it’s the newspapers, every news show, and the damn parade and everything else on Friday. If the stinking 2000 team had just won, I could have swallowed all of this. Please bring on the hot stove and hope that 2010 can’t possibly be as bad as 2009. Hope that the Coupons can’t possibly do anything worse to hurt this team.
