Carlos Delgado, Brian Schneider, and Gary Sheffield have been categorized as Type B Free Agents by Elias.
…in other words, if the Mets offer salary
arbitration to any of these three players, and if they decline it and sign with a new team, the Mets will be rewarded one additional draft pick for each player in the ‘Sandwich Round,’ which occurs between the first and second round of the draft…
…the thing is, i don’t know if i offer arbitration to any of these three guys, because i think all three might accept it… it’s a tough call… i have to think sheffield and schneider would prefer to find some place where they can start, and delgado would prefer to be a DH… but, they’re all probably looking at one-year deals anyway…

three great ball players and fine gentlemen.
the Mets need to move beyond them, tho.
We need a fresh realignment, IMO
thank you
and good night
80% for Delgado is 9.6M, for Sheffield 11.2M, and for Schneider, 4.02M
I can’t see anyof them getting a better deal anywhere, so if we do offer arbitration, they would take it.
80% does not apply to players with 6 or more years service time.
If the Mets get Holliday or Bay ? I’d consider bringing back Delgado at a lesser price for 1 year and platoon Murphy with him until Ike Davis is ready. It all depends how much Delgado seeks.
Agreed… We also desperately need Lackey.
If no Lackey ? I like Bedard or trading for Carlos Zambrano
A two-lefty platoon? How do you plan to work that?
No thankyou. The MEts have to get younger players.
we need LAckey and Holliday the most. Zambrano is nice.
I think that Delgado has the best chance to get a deal done. Sheff wants 11 million and Schenider i know wants 4 million, but these guys are not really worth bringing back at that price. Schenider had a terrible season, and Sheffield had what i think is an average season. So i think the Mets will give Carlos Delgado one more chance with them.
What is with the Delgado love? How do you even know the guy can still play 1B and hit? He’s comming off hip surgery, he’s old and he didn’t even bother sticking around with the team when he found out he wasn’t going to play anymore this season, he just went home to sit on his sofa and eat ice cream or whatever. I want to see guys for the team
Hopefully, Omar figures out how to get these type B FA’s to agree to decline arbitration and gets the 3 extra picks for his farm system.
If he does, then that’s quite an accomplishment, IMO.
Schneider doesn’t owe the Mets anything, but declining arbitration is the least that Delgado and Sheffield could do, especially since it doesn’t impact their marketability. Tatis is also type B isn’t he?
I would be so happy if the Mets could go into the upcoming draft with the #7 and two sandwich picks.
