Money made from being in the playoffs, winning in the playoffs, and bandwagon fans. Considering how obsessed they are with making money how have the Wilpons not been able to understand this concept.

He was money in the post-season, yes. But, I remember many a crappy start and concerned Phillie fan in the latter part of the season when he was routinely getting smoked. I also remember Cole Hamels being money last post-season and look what happened there. A legendary post-season does not a legend make.

Ill tell you, I looked at Cliff Lee’s game log from this season and I was surprised at how inconsistent he was. I still think hes a great pitcher, but he had A LOT of 5 inning starts where he gave up 6 runs.

remember Lee had to go down to the minors to get his stuff back.
I think its normal then to have Philly take the option but wait to offer extension – and hopefully Lee decides to test the market.

No doubt they’ll pick up his option, I gotta believe they’ll resign him, or atleast try.

the reports says they’re undecided about offering an EXTENSION…

his option is almost guaranteed to be picked up. Its way below market value…they’ll wait and see how he plays and if he’ll be worth the $100 million he could fetch on the open market.
His value will never be higher, no reason to lock him up now.

BUT 1 year option…thats already gonna be a done deal.

When will the have to decide on picking up the option?

This seems like a no-brainer, but it would very awesome if he doesn’t resign.

People – please do not pay any attention to reports like these. This team has been to the World Series two years in a row. They’ve raked in tons of playoff money, not to mention a millions in bandwagon fan money.

Make no mistake, Cliff Lee is our problem for the long haul. We can only hope that he loses that confidence and slips back to reality going forward, because right now hes untouchable.
