News: Myers Done in Philly
By Michael Baron - Nov 6, 2009 2:43 pm

Andy Martino, in a report for the Philadelphia Inquirer, says that the Phillies will not retain Brett Myers.

Myers told Martino:

“I officially won’t be a Phillie next year.”

In eight seasons with the Phillies, Myers went 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA in 240 games, and had numerous off-the-field issues including a verbal altercation with Cole Hamels earlier this week in the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.

    I smell a Met.

Actually, if Myers is too crude for Philly, how can he possibly be accepted in NY?

  2. Coolpapabell says:

Matt, you forgot to add that he is a wife beater.

Dye and Myers, Omar is already booking his vacation.

Although in all seriousness I think he’s worth looking at for the back end of the rotation, hes still young and has potentially dominant stuff. He has worked out of the pen effectively and worked as a starter, not to mention he may have an axe to grind with Philly.

    he’s such a tool

Absolutely not on so many levels. First of all, he sucks.

Second, I can compartmentalize as much as any fan, but this is one guy I hope I never have to root for. Just a despicable person.

He’s awful, injury prone, can’t avoid controversy… as much as I like the “Phillies revenge” angle, this would be a disaster. He’ll end up somewhere like Milwaukee, or, hell, Dave Duncan will reinvent him in St. Louis.

To totally dismiss him would be insane. Ideally would he be a great fit….no. But he Zeile mentioned he is still young, has great stuff, and can be used in the pen and as a starter. Who knows maybe he can bring a lil of that Philly magic to this team. I guess Im saying I wouldnt hate the move but I wouldnt love it either.

  9. JohantheMan says:

Yeah I agree with thedude i don’t want to have to root for a guy like this,

  10. methead says:

I wouldnt touch this guy if he was the last pitcher on the market. He is scum.

    LOL

As Met fans we should not want philly’s sloppy seconds in New York. I do think Myers can be a good arm in the pen but the injuries and drama…he’s not that good and not worth it. Money better spent on Marquis and Harden/Sheets or Piniero.
