Heyman: Mets are Concerned about Lackey’s Arm
By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 9, 2009 10:52 pm

Jon Heyman of SI.com feels the Mets will not pursue free-agent RHP John Lackey, due to health concerns regarding his arm.

the way i understand it, like a lot of teams, the Mets have interest in lackey, but not if it means committing more than $60 million, or four years on a deal… lackey’s rumored to be seeking a five-year deal, much like A.J. Burnett got last off season from the Yankees… i heard from one person today who wondered if a team, like the Rangers, could give to lackey a deal like they gave to Kevin Millwood, i.e., a big signing bonus with and a front-loaded deal

Minaya told reporters he will be very aggressive in the free-agent market this winter, while seeking a power bat and starting pitching.

well we shouldn’t read too much into this as i mentioned earlier, gotta play those cards close to the vest, the whole world can’t know who you want otherwise the price would increase

    Keyword: FEELS
He wishes the Mets don’t pursue him, so that the Yanks get him…

  5. MetsFan06 says:

The Mets should be able to get him. They should get him because if they don’t the Yankees will get him and they wil probably win another WS. Omar should have LAckey and Holliday or BAy on the top of his list.

Worst case scenario we sign Lackey and he gets hurt. Best case scenario we sign Lackey and not only get someone that can give us 17-20 wins but one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball.
To me its a no brainer. You have to go with the upside of that deal and sign him. The last couple of months of the season and the playoffs he looked pretty healthy to me

Excuse not to sign Lackey or bring down his value ?

  8. marylandmet says:

Is there a history with Lackey’s arm that we should know about?

  9. mets9268 says:

On mlbtraderumors.com they have the top 50 free agents and where they think those players will land. They have the Mets getting Holliday, Wolf and Penny with Lackey going to the Yankees.
I have to say that I would not mind that at all. I would love it even more if that 3 way trade that send Castillo packing and brings in Overbay happens cause that means we will be going hard at Hudson.

    Santan
    Lackey
    Maine
    Pelfrey
    Ollie

    OR

    Santana
    Wolf
    Penny
    Maine
    Perez

I would rather have option 2. As for the lineup, the Mets would be a much deeper team with more run production if they added Overbay, Hudson and Holliday

    the Mets don’t need Lackey

they need Holliday & 2 steady pitchers ala Wolf & Marquis that can actually pitch 200 innings unlike Maine, & Perez

YEa yea yea just like Guerrero’s back was the reason why we didnt sign him. Our owners are CHEAP! PERIOD! Once they hear the Yankees may be interested they put their tail between their legs and run away and hide like little girls. We will always be second rate to the Yankees with these bums as our owners AND if you disagree than you are in denial.
