Sherman: NY GM seeks PHB for 1B or LF
By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 9, 2009 12:52 pm

Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Omar Minaya is telling friends he badly wants a run-producing bat for either first base or left field.

…really… you don’t say… hopefully, he’s telling other GMs and agents, as well

Sherman, however, points out that Minaya is not alone in his quest, listing seven other teams who might have the same goal.

It only took him 3 1/2 years to realize we need a run producing bat in LF.

If everyone on the planet sees a hole in LF and at 1B for the Mets in 2010 then please explain to me the high value placed on Murphy and FMart and how you plan on moving them to the same peolpe that think they need replacing.

this is easy holliday for LF and gonzo for 1B, problem solved…I wish it was that easy..lol

in all seriousness I think we will have one of them, but we can dream you never know.

Wow, there are a good number of teams in search of run producing bats, nice work Joel Sherman!!!!! Way to get to the bottom of things. Here all along I thought there would be a decent amount of teams looking for unproductive hitters. Thats why I’m just a dumb fan I guess.

Well Omar is a bit slow but he finally figured it out, well done!

    • Come on, we all know Omar is a GM for the fans. He only acts when people in NY are screaming for him to do something…

We needed an ace two years ago, and fans wanted Santana (although we were a longshot). He delivered.

Last year, we needed a closer and a better bullpen. He answered with K-Rod and Putz (still a great pickup despite the injury). We had the best bullpen in baseball in 2009.

This year we have an obvious need for a power bat in LF (or 1B, but Omar loves Davis so I personally rule that one out). Who is available? Only one of the best hitters in the game who happens to play LF.

Omar will sign Matt Holliday. Where he goes from there remains to be seen.

good points, i do think he’ll sign matt holliday and it does fit the pattern but we need more than that so let’s see if he gets it done, it may be his last chance

Yeah. I think it is more realistic than trading for Gonzo. And we can sign Lackey still. We then will get a catcher like BArajas/Olivo/Molina for 2 years. We will get a good but cheap pitcher like Wolf or MArquis or GArland. We can boost the bench and bullpens A LITTLE BIT and MAYBE trade Castillo and sign Hudson.
