Until someone actually sees Jose Reyes sprinting around the bases pain-free, they have absolutely no business proclaiming that “he looks great.” (Unless it’s his wife or mom.)

I think us fans are taking that statement too literally. What i believe they meant is they aren’t getting into a crazy bidding war. Similar to how they walked away from derrick Lowe. They were in it all the way until the guaranteed 5th year.

I think they are in the same boat this offseason. They will be in on every player they need. Lackey, Holliday, Bay etc….. But they have a number in mind. Say 6 years @18per for holliday 5 years@16per for Bay, 4 years @16 per for Lackey.

if the bidding get up and over that then they will walk away.

If you don’t want to platoon them, I think it will be a lot easier to move Overbay in a seperate deal than it is to find another deal for Castillo. So you can keep Murphy and let him develop and move Overbay for some other need and thus save all of Castillos contract aswell.

I know this is a bit late, but I was reading all of the posts regarding the supposed three team deal that would net us Overbay and send Castillo to the Cubs. Many were saying platoon Overbay and Murphy. HUH? They are both lefthanded, and Overbay has very little power for a firstbaseman, so why not just keep Murphy and hope his power develops? He hit some hard shots last year and is a very strong kid. He also has a work ethic that everyone else on the team should adopt and he certainly seems to care about the team and the game’s outcome more than just about anyone we have had on the team in years. Castillo, healthy, was one of our toughest outs last year. Keep him and move forward! Lets go Mets!

its like we are signing a top SS for next year. I’m really anxious to see reyes on the field again, after seeing all the crap at SS last season.
