This is Holliday’s only real shot at a big money contract. You can bet Boras keeps telling him that. I don’t recall a situation when a Boras client has signed for a lower price than what was out there. So, if the Mets really want him, they just have to put up the dough.

Regarding Beltran and the Astros: when was how often does a player flat out say wouldn’t play for a team? It happens, but is somewhat rare and there is usually bad blood.

Regarding the Braves: Tex is from Baltimore. NYC is closer geographically and culturally than is Atlanta. Plus playing college ball is different than family. You may be right, but I’d still be surprised.

Yeah but the Braves thought they had an edge with Teixeria because he went to Georgia Tech. And the Astros were optimistic about keeping Beltran around because he claimed to like it there.

Holliday has only been with the Cards for 3 months and Bora$ is his agent (like Tex and Beltran). He will go where the money is.

don’t take this the wrong way but “duh”. After Holliday’s error in the playoffs he was immediately mocked (because of where it hit) but that was it. You need to remember that his family is from NE Oklahoma which is old school Cardinals territory. You are right, he probably wants to stay here and will give the Cards a discount, but not a huge discount – which is why Boras is involved. Basically drive the Cards to their breaking point. Puljols wants him and is waiting to see what the Cards do with Holliday before he signs a lifetime extention. Same thing with Puljols. He is from KC, which isn’t far in the Midwest. married a local woman and has a bunch of kids and businesses. The deal with the fans here is that if Holliday leaves over a few million dollars (not 25M of course) then they really don’t want him.

I wouldnt mind seeing Phillips come in, he plays a great 2B and has good pop. I wonder what it would take to get him though?

Adam may actually be right, but you have to know that Boras is going to be annoyed about him coming forward with this.

It’s very possible that Holliday has told Boras he really wants to remain with the Cards, and in order to make it happen, Boras is going to act like he’s going to the Yanks/Mets/Sox/Angels, just to squeeze a little more money out of the Cards.

Reds looking to slice payroll.

Bring on Brandon Phillips. Trade Luis Castillo to the Cubs for RH relief pitcher Angel Guzman and a minor leaguer. Then sign Jermaine Dye and Benji Molina

Looking at Phillip’s #’s, this would be a great fit.
