According to Dave O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Braves will soon announce that Tim Hudson has signed a three-year contract extension with an option for 2013, which overrides the $12 million mutual option for 2010.

Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes that the Phillies are looking at Placido Polanco, Mark DeRosa, and Adrian Beltre, in that order, to fill their third base vacancy.

Polanco was with the Phillies between 2002 and 2005 and just finished a four year, $18.4 million deal with the Tigers.

Two things:

A) could it be that Philly doesn’t like the apparent price tag of Figgins?

B) What do any of the other 3 listed give you that Feliz doesn’t?

Seems like making change at third for the sake of change? I mean any of those guys aren’t gonna be much less money than the option the Phils just declined on Feliz. I gotta believe they’ll stil be in on Figgins and frankly they can have him and his price tag with all the options out there for considerably less for guys who are actually 2nd basemen naturally.

I thought figgins was a terrible fit on that team. You already have your lineup set form 1-5. He’s not a good option at the bottom of the lineup. It would be like the mets hitting castillo 7th or 8th.

He’s a 1 or 2 hitter. and the phillies have those 2 spots filled up.

I agree, and that’s part of the reason he wouldn’t be a good fit for the Mets either! He just doesn’t bring enough pop to justify the contract he is seeking (for the Met’s needs anyway) I just have a hard time believing that the Mets are going to hand out that kind of contract to a guy like Figgins without dealing with LF, and the Rotation first,…..at which point there probably isn’t payroll room left for a “Figgins type contract ” Not to mention thefact that the Mets are probably gonna have to pay 2 or 3 miilion of Castillo’s contract if they move him. That’s alot of dough for the second base position with so many other needs.

I thought they wanted Feliz back but didn’t want to pay 5.5 million, which is kind of weird, maybe they are trying to dump payroll but why would they be after Figgins who will cost more than Feliz

For whatever reason the Phillies have diluded themselves into thinking they are going to pick up a third baseman that’s better than Feliz for the same money as they were gonna pay Feliz, honestly I don’t see it happening. They may very well find that declining that option was a mistake!

feliz at 5.5 mil seems reasonable to me…plus they got to the ws the last 2 years with him as their 3rd baseman…the phils have been very smart the last few years with their moves but i dont get this one…
