Tie Dyed of Mets Merized Online wonders if people should also blame swine flu and the recession on Omar Minaya and Luis Castillo.

The MetsCitiBlog recalls “a sweet & bittersweet 2007 Mets memory on SNY.”
In a post to NY Sports Day, Joe McDonald explains why acquiring free-agent Chone Figgins would be a good idea, which is something Mets Walkoffs can support, as well.
Meanwhile, Will from Orange and Blue explains why it would be a mistake for Omar Minaya to sign free-agent C Benjie Molina.
According to Leslie Moneiro from the Bleacher Report, Minaya should invest big money this off season on three specific players and a new manager.

Chone Figgins is not the answer, especially at 10 million a year. He’s past his prime and is essentially “Luis Castillo Deluxe”. He doesn’t have any power and his defense at second or left won’t be anything special.
I agree, Figgins doesn’t give the Mets enough of what they need for the kind of money he’s asking! Money would be better spent elsewhere.
Also, Bengie Molina and Jeff Francoeur in the same lineup? Talk about lack of plate discipline. Opposing pitchers will smile when they see that.
I didnt see too many opposing pitchers smiling whenever Francoeur came up to the plate in a Mets uniform. Can we ditch the Frenchy rants already, it’s getting quite old.
Wonder if the Reds would trade Brandon Phillips & Bronson Arroyo for Mike Pelfrey (Ohio native).
Why would you trade one your most promising SP to get a Salary dump SP who is good, but not near the potential Pelfrey has. Not too mention Arroyo can be a FA in 2 years while Pelfrey is under team contol for years to come and at a reasonable price. I would think if the Mets picked up all Arroyo’s salary they should be able to get Phillips for a couple of B prospects at the most. Now that’s a deal worth making.
The Mets should try and get Harang and Phillips from Cincy. Doumit from the Pirates. And then trade for Doc
Reyes
Phillips
Wright
Beltran
Doumit
Francouer
Pagan/Pierre(castillo for pierre)
Murphy
Johaness
Doc
Harang
Pelf
Olly
Maine in the pen if hes not included in any of the trades
tell me thats not a championship contending team
or Id bat Pagan/Pierre or Murphy in the 2 slot and Phillips in the 5 slot ..
Doumit plays defense like Murphy in LF! And Doc is flat out too old for A) what it would take to get him, and B) to sign him to a 6 or 7 year extension is Ludicrous for a pitcher who will be 33 in 2010!
1) Doumit would catch and play first here
2) Docs age concerns me but I dont think you would have to go past 5 yrs.
plus doc has a smooth delivery and doesnt throw that hard. There is still plenty of tread left
Doc and Johan have 3 world class years left in them…which is why the time is now for the mets
I rather get Haren over Doc but it would cost more in prospects
You aren’t winning anything with Doumit and Francoeur hitting 5 and 6, even with that starting pitching.
your a fool
uhm why are we blaming stuff on Castillo, he had a good year, one of the only mets who had a good year
He had a good year for Luis Castillo. The fact remains that he can hardly hit the ball out of the infield and he has the range of Dan Uggla. If I wanted a second baseman with Dan Uggla’s range then I’d want him to hit like Dan Uggla. Time to unload Castillo. Almost anyone would be an upgrade.
