Yesterday, 20–year-old Mets prospect Jenrry Mejia earned his first win in the Arizona Fall League, though he let up five runs in 3.2 innings, while touching 95 mph with his fastball.

According to Toby Hyde of Mets Minor League Blog, Dan Warthen suggested to Mejia he use his two-seam fastball more.

To read a review and see video of the performance, as well as to read notes from Hyde’s 15–minute post-game talk with Mejia, go to Mets Minor League Blog, here.

By the way, Beyond the Boxscore digs through Pitch F/X results from pitcher’s in the AFL, and concludes that Mejia and Nationals RHP Steven Strassburg have been among the best at getting swings and misses and ground balls.

Last month, Adam Rubin of the Daily News said Jerry Manuel watched Mejia’s first start in the AFL, “to gauge whether he may be able to help the Mets in the bullpen in early 2010.”

warthen is telling him what to throw, manuel is watching, and he’s among the best in swings and misses and ground balls, all of which sounds like he must certainly be on the radar as a reliever next season
