Tie Dyed of Mets Merized Online wonders if people should also blame swine flu and the recession on Omar Minaya and Luis Castillo.
John, from Metstradamus, provides a You Tube tribute to Benny Agbayani, who had been playing for Bobby Valentine in Japan the last few seasons, and who announced his retirement yesterday.
The MetsCitiBlog recalls “a sweet & bittersweet 2007 Mets memory on SNY.”
In a post to NY Sports Day, Joe McDonald explains why acquiring free-agent Chone Figgins would be a good idea, which is something Mets Walkoffs can support, as well.
Meanwhile, Will from Orange and Blue explains why it would be a mistake for Omar Minaya to sign free-agent C Benjie Molina.
According to Leslie Moneiro from the Bleacher Report, Minaya should invest big money this off season on three specific players and a new manager.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Pirates will not hesitate to trade C Ryan Doumit, “in the right deal.”
Doumit hit .318 with 15 HR in 116 games during 2008, but hit just .250 with 10 HR in half as many games in 2009.
He has played mostly catcher during his five-year career, but has also spent time at first base and in right field.
According to Rosenthal, “His versatility could appeal to teams that need to add a power bat, but aren’t entirely sure where.”
…if i remember right, the Mets were connected in rumor to doumit at the same trade deadline that delivered Oliver Perez…
…he is interesting, from an offensive point of view… the problem is, he is always injured, missing 70 games last year with a wrist injury, he struggles against left-handed pitching, and he’s very weak on defense, no matter where is playing… it’s a shame, because he’s a switch hitter, he has decent power from both sides of the plate, and he can play first base and the outfield, in addition to being a catcher… he’s appealing… but, i feel the Mets should be looking at players who are more well-rounded and reliable than doumit has proven to be…
The 28–year-old Doumit will earn $3.5 million next season and $5 million in 2011, after which the team holds an option for 2012 and 2013.
Yesterday, 20–year-old Mets prospect Jenrry Mejia earned his first win in the Arizona Fall League, though he let up five runs in 3.2 innings, while touching 95 mph with his fastball.
According to Toby Hyde of Mets Minor League Blog, Dan Warthen suggested to Mejia he use his two-seam fastball more.
To read a review and see video of the performance, as well as to read notes from Hyde’s 15–minute post-game talk with Mejia, go to Mets Minor League Blog, here.
By the way, Beyond the Boxscore digs through Pitch F/X results from pitcher’s in the AFL, and concludes that Mejia and Nationals RHP Steven Strassburg have been among the best at getting swings and misses and ground balls.
Last month, Adam Rubin of the Daily News said Jerry Manuel watched Mejia’s first start in the AFL, “to gauge whether he may be able to help the Mets in the bullpen in early 2010.”
…warthen is telling him what to throw, manuel is watching, and he’s among the best in swings and misses and ground balls, all of which sounds like he must certainly be on the radar as a reliever next season…
Last night, on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove, Carlos Beltran told host Kevin Burkhratd that his knee is feeling good.
Mets Hot Stove airs every Thursday on
SNY at 7 pm during the off season.
Beltran said he will continue to work in the off season, doing low-impact exercises, after which he’ll soon start hitting and getting his arm loose, and he looks forward to being ready for spring training.
Right now, he explained, he is not concerned about the issue with his knee returning next season.
Beltran said he was disappointed with how he and the team played last season. According to Beltran, while watching on TV from the disabled list, he was equally frustrated by how the team was losing, as he was in the actual losses.
In the end, he says the team needs to play smart baseball all season, noting it is just as important to win games in April as it is to win games in September.
Regrading David Wright, Beltran said he has no doubt Wright will return to form next season, as he continues on a path to becoming a Hall of Fame player.

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports say that the Nationals are looking to acquire a strong defensive shortstop, as they plan to move Cristian Guzman to second base.
While the Nationals could leave Guzman at short stop and pursue a second baseman, Rosenthal and Morosi say the Nationals are interested in both Alex Gonzalez and Adam Everett as defensive oriented short stops.
A potential solution for the Nationals at second base, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, could be Dan Uggla, but there will be competition from the Giants and Orioles, and Dave O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution says it’s possible the Braves could acquire Uggla and move him to left field.
However, Orioles General Manager Andy McPhail told Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun that he is uncertain how Uggla might perform in the American League, and might not be interested in a short term fix at second base.
…i think Uggla is better suited in the American League where he can DH…he has great power but has glass hands at second base…he made 16 errors at second and only Felipe Lopez made more at that position in the National League…
