if cincy is so into cutting salary with harang/arroyo and we can get one of them and phillips for a minimal amt of prospects then this is a no brainer...fill two holes with minimal farm reduction...

The Mets dont have enough to trade for phillips, haran, doumit, AND Halladay. We can make 1 Big time trade so either gonzalez or halladay then we would probably have to sign the other position or else we would need to have open try outs for our minor leagues bc theyd be depleted.

The Mets should try and get Harang and Phillips from Cincy. Doumit from the Pirates. And then trade for Doc

Reyes
Phillips
Wright
Beltran
Doumit
Francouer
Pagan/Pierre(castillo for pierre)
Murphy

Johaness
Doc
Harang
Pelf
Olly

Maine in the pen if hes not included in any of the trades

tell me thats not a championship contending team

or Id bat Pagan/Pierre or Murphy in the 2 slot and Phillips in the 5 slot ..

I'm not even looking for superstars. If the Mets could develop 2 solidy everyday position players from within, I would be thrilled. Rather than pay a vet $8 or $9 million to come in and fill a position the Mets would be paying a young everyday player significantly less than that giving them flexibility to fill in the other holes on the roster.

The problem is sooner or later the Mets are going to have to develop a group of young cheap players that have significant everyday roles on this team. Otherwise you are going to have the same top heavy roster we've seen since 2007. Maybe you get lucky like 2006 and get surprise season's out of vets like the Mets did with Valentin and Lo Duca. But in that scenario you can't expect to do that every year.

I'm not saying the Mets need to hold onto all of their prospects but they need to hold onto some of them to incorporate onto the Major League roster if they expect to have long term success.

It's great that Carlos makes himself available and talks up his teammates like this. Very, very glad he's on our team, and this last year demonstrated his value. And yes, sell the farm to get Gonzales. He'd round out this team incredibly, and we need to build a team to win now.

Its nice having a bunch of players on one team that have a good shot at the HOF. Wright, Beltran, Santana and Reyes. Now they all still have a long way to go but they are all one of the best in the game at their position which is a big factor for the HOF. Now if the Mets can build around them(the right way and not with guys like Sheffield) the Mets can be a very very good team for years to come. So the debate that has been going on between Mets fans is who should the Mets get this offseason?
I can't see why anyone would even consider signing Holliday for most of the teams budget over trading for A-Gon. Gonzo is a beast who is only 25 years old and making very little money right now. He brings a gold glove at first bast and one of the best bats in the game(much better than Holliday). Now I know he will cost more down the line but if the Mets trade for him, it means they are willing to pay him when that time comes.
I know a lot of people don't want to give up a bunch of prospects but what are we really giving up?

Davis...A lot of talent and potential but he will never be Gonzo.

Mejia.....Sounds like this guy has a lot of talent but is also years away and may never make it.

F-Mart....This one would hurt a little bit but Gonzo is worth is. I think that F-Mart will be a very good OF in the near future but he won't be as good as we all hoped for the past few years.

Havens...The Mets are going after Hudson or Figgins for 2nd so if they get one of them where is Havens going to play

Tejada/Flores....The last time I checked the Mets have a stud SS named Jose Reyes blocking them from ever having a spot on the team

If they want some major league players in the deal they will probably want guys like Parnell, Maine, Pelfrey or Ollie(I wish).

Parnell....To be honest, I'm not impressed. He throws hard and gets hit hard. He will be good but don't hold on to this guy if it means bringing in a stud like Gonzo. Holding on to a what if or a maybe in the pen is a horrible move if you need him to make Gonzo happen.

Maine....Good bye

Ollie......Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Pelfrey.....Would hate to see you go, but Gonzo is worth it and to be honest all 3 of these SP's can be replaced with better talent on this years free agent market(Wolf, Pinero, etc.)

So whats the problem. Gonzo is a future HOF player and one of the best in the game today. He's young, ton of talent and power and only getting better. To get him we would have to come up with a package of a bunch of blocked players, ??? players and easily replaced players. Its a no brainer!!!
