by Michael Baron

This afternoon, I visited a Mets Clubhouse Shop and I spoke to the salesperson regarding the new Mets home jersey for 2010.

The new jerseys have arrived at the store and according to the salesperson, the Mets will be introducing a new, cream colored and pinstriped jersey for the 2010 season, and the jersey is expected to go on sale November 27.

As Matt said earlier this week, the new jersey resembles the one worn by the Mets in the 1960’s, and the team will be eliminating their current white pinstriped jersey with the black shadow.

…you can now get an authentic pinstriped jersey with the Citi Field Inaugural Season patch on sale for $90, which i don’t think is such a bad deal…

In addition, the jersey will have the players’ last name on the back and it will also be a “Cool Base” model, which is the new mesh jersey that teams have been wearing for the last few seasons, and the same material used for their batting practice jersey.

IMO, I like the 2009 ones better.

DominicanBoy08 November 18, 2009 at 8:21 pm

cream colored?, I’m not sure I like that color. are they eliminating the white pinstriped jersey with the blue caps?? thats my favorite.

Jova1931 November 18, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Those are my favorites too! So the past two seasons they’ve eliinated two of the nicest unis (black new york & pinstripes jerseys), ugh.

MetsFan06 November 18, 2009 at 8:43 pm

I also think the gray New York ones were eliminated but I may be wrong.

OlerudsHelmet November 18, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I don’t think they eliminated the road greys. If they did, they’d have to go out there naked. And these guys need all the protection they can get.

Go back and look at the classic Mets unis of the 60s and 70s. This is it. This is what the Met uni was always supposed to be.

MetsFan06 November 18, 2009 at 8:25 pm

My favorite is the all white, no pinstripe with the all blue hats.

Dimebag69 November 18, 2009 at 8:45 pm

Those are my least fav’s. Always thought they look like Pajamas.

I like the idea of the cream…I just wish they did it 4 years ago, before the Phillies started wearing them.

MetsFan06 November 18, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Pajamas? LOL! I was just thinking about the Phillies jerseys too.

Number57 November 18, 2009 at 8:43 pm

Good decision, love these unis.

JohantheMan November 18, 2009 at 8:46 pm

not bad, with blue hats?

metsfan1 November 18, 2009 at 9:49 pm

I think cream could be cool. But lets face it, fans screamed at not liking the black uniforms. Why eliminate the other colors and keep the black? And lets not forget, these are just cosmetic changes. They could change their team colors to red, white and blue but if they won the world series I wouldn’t care about history etc. Lets not forget, orange and blue is dedicated to two teams that abandoned NY. If we decided not to honor them, then so be it.

Tommy2cat November 18, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Ok, ok, I admit it.

Every year my grandfather would buy me a Met uniform for my birthday. He would put the number of my favorite player on the back, #15 Jerry Grote. I wore it every day. I would fall asleep with it on, and every morning it would be folded neatly, washed clean and ready for another day on the ballfield.

Yeah, I remember this uniform…

JohantheMan November 18, 2009 at 9:53 pm

thats a great story!

Tommy2cat November 19, 2009 at 5:38 am

Thanks.

MetsFan06 November 19, 2009 at 6:52 am

dad’s favorite player is Grote. He always talked about him like he was best friends with him.

DominicanBoy08 November 18, 2009 at 9:56 pm

they should wear the road gray uniforms with the royal blue cap, I think they wore it at yankees stadium two years ago and it looked really nice.

Jova1931 November 19, 2009 at 11:24 am

Yeah, I was at that game (the Delgado 9 rbi game). That was a good look especially with the royal blue, knee high socks. They should wear that more often.

2 angels and a pagan November 18, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Typical mets, they realize we want some new throwback-ish unis so they decide to abandon nice unis to do it and keep the black. Meanwhile the majority of fans hate the black unis

Ceetar November 18, 2009 at 10:02 pm

its’ okay. don’t like it any more than what they’ve been wearing the last couple of years. *shrug* But I like modern stuff too, like things with a little flair to them.

Unless they wantto get real old school and wear 19th century uniforms. I did like the old big NY ones they wore against the Giants.

racemccloud November 18, 2009 at 10:05 pm

I hate the white with blue pinstripes, so I’ll be glad to see them go. The snow whites and the black on whites are much better.

But I like the idea of the cream with pinstripes. Appropriately old-school. I approve.

koosman3669 November 18, 2009 at 10:07 pm

Now Michael, don’t be buyin’ any $90 jerseys when your saving up for that new Canon.

statnut November 18, 2009 at 11:02 pm

Speaking of uniforms, why can’t I find a Ron Darling t-shirt or jersey in the Mets’ stores, but could find Dykstra, Strawberry, Gooden, etc, no problem?

racemccloud November 18, 2009 at 11:44 pm

Darling’s sold out?

mets9268 November 19, 2009 at 5:59 am

Personally I couldn’t care about what jerseys they wear. They can put on pink jerseys with purple stripes and a little flowers in all the letters on the jersey. All I care about is that they put the right people in those jerseys and get us into the playoffs again.

MetsFan06 November 19, 2009 at 6:53 am

LOL. Just how Wright and Reyes would look.

eDaPS November 19, 2009 at 8:40 am

Off topic:

Anyone else notice Peter Gammons, for no reason, just took another shot at the Mets on his twitter?

“last 7 years Marlins have 12 more wins, 1 more winning season, 5 more post-season wins than Mets, for $600M less

What a tool.

Anyway, I actually like the black uniform. I don’t see what the big deal is about it. The only thing about the uniforms that actually bothered me was when the stopped wearing “NEW YORK” away and just had “METS”.

Other than that, everything else was fine.

fixedbin15 November 19, 2009 at 10:04 am

Guys, they didn’t reinvent the wheel here. It’s the same type of uni that Seaver wore back in the day.

So let me ask…what are the official Mets jerseys & hats for 2010? what’s been killed off? My opinion is they should wear the blue/orange hats more. I like traditional.

2 angels and a pagan November 19, 2009 at 10:15 am

I agree. They should have only one hat. The all blue.

Three hats is a joke

fixedbin15 November 19, 2009 at 10:51 am

Let’s start a pettition to get rid of the other hats! Who’s with me?

igotyourbackman November 19, 2009 at 10:24 am

I am disappointed. I have no interest in cream colors. I’ll have to see them first. When i hear cream i think egg nog. If its just a bit off white, then perhaps that will be acceptable. If they are ugly, I may have to just stop watching all together. I’ve had it up to “here” with the terrible PR of the Mets….

I can’t understand why they don’t just do white with pinstripes and road grays and be done with it. Blue hats too, of course. No black, no orange, no blue – just pinstripes and road grays (like another team in ny). Consistency.

Can we hope that they keep these uniforms, unchanged, for a good long while?

And while we are at it, lets get some consistency in the player t-shirts as well. You’ll note the Yanks have navy blue as the majority standard. May I suggest we get rid of the orange and black varieties and just stick with the true Mets blue?

YankeeHater November 19, 2009 at 10:29 am

A little creativity would be nice. They’re just adding the name to the 6s jersey. I hope they where the NY jerseys again this year.

fixedbin15 November 19, 2009 at 10:55 am

I don’t mind them selling different colors of Mets jerseys/t-shirts/hats. On field – keep it simple. Road grays with New York in block lettering. Home pinstripes the traditional way (you can even throw Mr. Met on the sleave – that’s cool). Traditional blue cap. Period.

Where are the uniform submissions from MetsBlog readers?
