Buzz: Braves shopping Derek Lowe to Brewers

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Braves and Brewers have discussed sending LHP Derek Lowe to Milwaukee for OF Cory Hart.

However, according to Rosenthal, “The Brewers are not sure they would want Lowe even if the Braves included significant money in the deal.”

The Braves signed Lowe last off season to a four-year, $60 million deal.

He will earn $15 million each of the next three seasons, after which he can become a free agent again.

…the thing is, if he was on the open market right now, it would go John Lackey, then lowe and guys like Joel Pineiro, Randy Wolf, Jason Marquis and Jon Garland, and i don’t think he would come close to getting the type of money that is due to him… so, it would stand to reason, any team looking to take on lowe, would wither a) ask the Braves to pay at least a few million bucks per season on his deal, or b) just sign one of these other pitchers for less

He was 15–10 with a 4.67 ERA in 34 starts for the Braves, while striking out 111 batters and walking 63 in 194 innings.

Since becoming a starting pitcher in 2002, He has made at least 32 starts and won at least 12 games.

Good luck with that.

I’d take Lowe only if they took Oliver Perez in return.

We couldn’t get that lucky! lol

id stay as far away as possible. Hes what like 37? He was badddd last year. And hes getting worse, both in skillset and durability. They’d have to take back a minimum of 5 mil per year, and take Castillo or something. But they wouldnt want Castillo, and I wouldnt want to deal an mlb player for this guy.

Stay away

After the year Lowe had and his age, I’m not sure he’d be the #2 pitcher on the market. I cautioned last offseason that signing Lowe for big money/big years was a mistake. I’d actually rather have Perez than him, sad to say.

but what does OP have to offer?
He has physical problems because he is lazy and he he has mental problems because he is nuts!
All this for only 12M/per.

true, but at this point in time there is a chance he can rebound and become more consistent, mainly because of his age. Lowe at this point in his career, is what he his…Oliver at least has a chance to pitch like 2ndhalf-2008 ollie, or 2006 ollie. There is hope there.

was he bad last year? could he be a number 2? would atlanta eat his salary? then we may take him

statnut November 19, 2009 at 11:44 pm

A WHIP of 1.5 is pretty bad. Factor in his salary and age, and I wouldn’t want any part of him.

Also Pinerio isn’t a number 2 right? Are we going to sign him just so we never have to face him again?

I think the key of this story is, if the Brewers are shopping Hart, the Mets need to be all over it. He’d fit very nicely in LF, and much cheaper than some alternatives.

I would agree Dimebag69. He would be a great fit.

How could the brewers even consider that? That’s like the Mets trading Jeff Francouer for Barry Zito.

Milwaukee: B prospects for bad contracts, not established players.

I need to send a thank you note to Toby Keith and the Atlanta braves for helping the Mets dodge that bullet.
