Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says that the Cardinals remain optimistic that they will be able to re-sign Matt Holliday.

According to Rosenthal, Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III said:

“Like any club, you have to set your budget and make sure you live within it…As it relates to Matt, we have an internal sense of what we can do.  Hopefully, he’ll view that as enough… The process has to play itself out.  There’s no point in getting into the posturing that seems to be going on out there a little.  We’re trying to keep him.  We love Matt.  We’re trying to get him signed.  If not, we’ll move on to a Plan B.”

…i think the best chance for the Cardinals to re-sign Holliday came in the last 15 days when they had exclusive negotiating rights…it’s not to say they can’t retain him and they have made every indication that they want him back, but once the big-market teams can bid, the Cardinals might not be able to counter with a competitive response…

On Tuesday, DeWitt told Bernie Miklasz of ESPN Radio that if a big market team goes all out to sign Holliday, the Cardinals don’t stand a chance.

LOL, that FOX sports poll doesnt even list the Mets as a possible location for Holliday, even though we are obviously the front runners after midnight.

Why would they be optimistic about Holiday? They have about as much chance of signing Holiday as I do of Playing in the big leagues! It aint happening! NO CHANCE!

I could see them getting one of Marquis or Pinero but not both, and they would be missing a LF, unless they are going with Murphy at 1st and Pagan in LF

The Red Sox are good, but they’re not that good. They wont be signing Lackey and Bay AND trading for Adrian, who will require Tex money soon enough. Two of the three, realistic, not all three.

Take the Cardinals seriously. If they can’t protect Pujols in the lineup, he may test the waters after 2011. I think of Pujols in the same way I think of LeBron James. Superstars need a side kick. Ruth had Gehrig, Mantle had Maris, Jordan had Pippen, Manny had Big Papi, etc. Pujols is looking at Holliday the same way. If the Cards come up empty, then Albert may look for a better situation.

The Lone Ranger had Tonto. Sigmund had the Sea Monster. Laverne had Shirley. Martin had Lewis. Abbott had Costello. Laurel had Hardy. Nichols had May. Simon had Garfunkel. Hall had Oates. Howard has Robin. Ham has cheese. Bacon has eggs. B has H. H also has H. Abraham had Strauss. Rodgers had Hammerstein. Batman has Robin.

The list goes on and on. See, right there! On has on!

I’m gonna take them serious. I’m not sure what kind of guy Matt is, meaning how much input he has with Boras. But playing alongside Pujols, with one of the best managers, and in front of the friendliest fans in the game does have its perks. Millions of $$ more though to play alongside Beltran, Wright, Reyes, and Johan in front of the most emotional fanbase does have its perks as well….but we also have a manager/GM that may or may not be here one year from now, let alone 6 months from now.

it really does suck that our instability re: our mgr and gm spots could hurt us when it comes to signing/trading…THANKS AGAIN WILPONS—–
